Hey you all. I have a slight and basic history in Marxism, and I 'm a philosophy major biting off more than I can chew.

I'm taking a class which is requiring me to write a 15 page paper comparing Society of Spectacle to Empire. While I finally have grasped spectacle. I think I'm going to have an incredibly hard time wiht Empire...

Has anyone read Empire? Can anyone tell me what to expect? Is their any knowledge or book I should read to grasp a better understanding? To compare it anarchism. Does it support anarchy etc?

I do not envy you, DeBord, Negri and all these other Po-Mo marxists are not easy to grasp, you need a lot of knowledge back in your head, from Spinoza, Nietzsche, Marx and Freud to Althusser, Deleuze, Guattari and Derrida, etc.

Personally I don't grasp neither the situationists nor the post-autonomists very well, but I would like to recomend the book "Empire's new clothes". It might really help you understand Empire.

I picked up Empire a while ago because I read an interesting review of Multitude and wanted to read it. However, I thought it best to start with the first book. Suffice it to say that I couldn't get past the first chapter without being vastly confused. I'm hoping to try to read it again later after taking some more classes in philosophy. Anyway, Empire's New Clothes looks pretty interesting. I might check it out.
