maybe its just me, but has any body else been seeing way too many lady bugs recently? I can't remember a year where I have seen so many around, does anybody know if they come ie. reproduce in cycles? are there alot of afids around or something?

i can remember seeing footage of a 'plague' of ladybirds somewhere somewhen...
though i guess there are worse things to have plaugues of. republicans for example.

Ladybirds are a good thing. They eat all sorts of pests. However, there's a new breed that is black with red spots which are really evil and you should kill them if you see them, and you should also report them to your local environment agency. You see the black with red spot ones kill normal ladybirds, as well as loads of other helpful insects. Apparently they are already prevalant in America, and are spreading through 'mainland' Europe, and one of them has been found in the UK.

I really don't see many ladybugs in the city!

Aren't the massive amounts of Lady Bugs courtesy of local crop farmers? I was told they were imported from Asia (hence Asian Lady Bugs) to fight the number of parasites on crops. However, they seemed to make themselves at home. Those stupid black and red one's bite too. When I was young they never used to bite and I could always pick them up without anything like that occurring.
Is this a bad thing? I don't see any where I live, but don't people use them to eat knats or some other bug that kills rose bushes? I remember back when I lived in Long Beach lady bugs were the only insects I could catch, so I'm cool with them cus they made my childhood that much better.

Mainly Europe and Britain i do believe.And crusader is correct there is a new breed of Lady Bird which is actually mildy harmfull to humans aswell .The sting is similsr to a Bee sting .
these ladybugs could be a new breed, I am not sure, I have recently heard of more insects migrating to north america, this is possible, but they are certainly no harm to us, thats for sure, anyway, I think that its good to have the black and red back in full force!

Normally in the fall, you can't leave your house and walk around without catching atleast one spider-web in the face. This year it's like there's no spidersbizarre.
