How do you create ideas psychologically?

Depends what you mean by ideas.

I made this diagram which may explain the beginnings of the process.

Stages of detection and perception:
A - Data is received by sensory organs.
B - The brain receives the data as electrical signals.
C - The subconscious brain interprets these signals and sends them to the conscious part of the brain.
D - The conscious brain experiences the sensation.
E - The experience is sent to and stored in memory.

Raw data (experiences & memories) + Reason = Understanding.
Understanding + Reason = Ability to make predictions and choose courses of action. Ability to form ideas.

We use our senses, being our only tools of cognition, to receive data from external reality, and then our brain to builds up a picture (consisting of visual images, physical feelings, sounds, smells and tastes) of reality. Then with this information / data we can attempt to understand it. This data exist in two categories; that which is in the present (consciousness) and that which is in the past (memories). Imagination, prediction and reason (that which we use to choose our future actions) are all based on current and previous data stored within the brain.

So we can't actually think of anything truly 'original'? It all has to have some sort of influnece?

Pretty much. The only way to prove otherwise would be to test the brain activity of a person without any senses and see if they have any thoughts.

People in sensory deprivation experience more brain activity than they normally do, this would suggest that ideas are not created by the compliation of external stimuli.

everything has to come from somewhere, how do you know what something looks like if you haven't seen the parts of it before? How can brain imagine something like that?

That would be the reasoning behind it, you can't just invent stuff it has to have come from somwhere, like energy.

This is entirely and comlpletely irrelevant in almost everyway right now, but isn't 'ComradeRed' Major Glory's arch nemesis on the show Dexter's Lab? It's not a bad thing, but I'm just seeing if thats where you got it from. I can see how that name can be thought up quite easily. To me, if you did get that from Dexter's Lab, i would have nothing but more respect for you! You're all so damn cool here!

Magic.

and what it conciousness?
Well, that's a different subject altogether. Some people will argue that consciousness is a purely human aspect, and that nothing else has it. Some say that consciousness exists in anything with organs, though I'm not sure where to draw the line, because when it boils down to it we're all made of the same things.
