China is not the first to think up Internet Protocol version 6.

I hate to tell you this, but the IETF has beat China to the punch. Some of the major contributors to the project include Richard Draves and Brian Zill of Microsoft. Sure they joined the game a little later, but their contribution to the academic communnity, in this respect, has been enormous. Microsoft has taken a leadership role in this effort to convert IP addresses to the new 128-bit system, which will solve the problem with the current 4 million address limitation imposed by Internet Protocol version 4.

Who are the Internet Engineering Task Force?

By the way, much of the legwork is being conducted by American academics and private American technology firms.

This is not to undercut the accomplishments of other countries of the world. This truly is an international effort. The following factsheet lists some of the key players in this new technology, China among them.

Recently, China went public with what's being called the first IPv6 router. I would hope that they contribute something to the solution, considering they will be the first to notice a shortage of web addresses. They may have been given the shaft when governments laid first claims to the original 4 million addresses.
