Finally I got my hands on a copy of the communist manifesto

The point is to read myself what communism is about, something that I should have done a long time ago <_<

But the problem is that it seems to be very old

Like ......Aren't there any revised editions?

I find it hard to believe that what was written centuries ago can be considered to be relevant today ,because things have changed so much or has the communist manifesto been revised of lately??

So are there any new editions available?

Your a fucking moron. So all this time you've been advocating a communist system and haven't even read the Communist Manifesto. Get the fuck out of here you imbecile.

Also, you can simply read the Communist manifesto online at marxist.com or .org

The stupidity of some people really amazes me. XD
7 months of advocating a "communist" system and nearly 300 brilliant posts, its about time you read the thing!

But the problem is that it seems to be very old

I think it's sad when somebody leaves...

Anyways, I never understood what's so great about the communist manifesto. I think writings like Imperialism: The highest stage of capitalism, and The State And The Revolution are great works, and should have received more popularity and recognition.

RI is no communist. He is a homophobe, he is a religious zealot, he is a social conservative in almost every way, he has advocated privatization before.

Anyways, personally, I think the Manifesto is overrated. I always recomment Principles of Communism, by Engles, to newcomers.

RI? A communist? I think his religious zealotry and social conservatism disqualify him from even being a leftist.

Indeed. The manifesto was simply written to spark anger among workers during the industrial revolution and does not really explain how the revolution is to come but rather looks into the history of the class struggle.

I actually have the opposite criticism of it. I think that "Principles" is easier to read and much more straightforward in defining the theory and terminology that communists use.

And it does "explain" the actions needed for the revolution. These actions, however, are pretty outdated, especially the 10 points Marx suggests. It's really just another reason why I tend towards "Principles," even if that, too, is a little too reflective of the times in which it was written.

As far as being "outdated", there are some instances where refernces in the writing do not apply to today's society, however if one were to look at it objectively you could come to understand how a certain reference in the writing could be applied to today's society.

His "homophobic" status seems questionable to me due to the hypersensitivity of this board, however, he is undeniably an asshole.

My first Marxist book i read was the communist manifesto, i read it and the opening line and the last paragraph i understood. Now reading this thread i have flicked through it and have decided i should read it again as i now will understand more of it.

Principles of communisn by Engels is a good read for newbie Marxist's.
