somehow i doubt that he polute more air than those 3 cars will do(in their mechanical life span)
the ironical of the story could be to alert people and get attention from a paradoxal action wich will (i think)could rise more self conciousness to the polution problem.since american administration is blind .
your not wrong about the over all emiisions issue but there are cleaner ways to stop cars than blowing them up, like stabbing all the tires on 1500 cars like some crazy cyclist did in England
