Well, hello. I'm having a comeback here. Instead of jumping straight onto pure leftist discussion or chit-chat, certain circumstances force me to focus on more hands-on issues.
I'm having an oral examination about "The international society", and intend on focusing on the UNs influence on global security (war, peace, security counsil etc.) and human development (with focus on the ability to achieve the Milennium development goals).
So I cock'load Google for a search. Funny how extreme right online newspapers are really favored here. Just try it.
Well, actually, I have plenty of sources really, except for facts about the impact of the UN development stuff. Like, do they really change anything for the better (applies escpecially for the World Bank)?

I'd also like some fellow anarchist or communist views on the UN.

I'm back. Until I'm banned that is.

The UN itself is overall, a good orginization. It has many different programs that provide aid and relief to many different countries. I actually visited UN headquarters a couple of months ago, during the National Model United Nations Conference in NY. It was at that conference that we focused on the failures of the international community and the UN.

April marked the anniversry of the genocide in Rwanda. During the conference, I learned that the situation, which was being handled by the Security Council, of which the US, France, UK, Russia and China are perminent members. The US decided to pull out of any peace keeping commitments and threatnened to US its veto power to prevent any resolution that would provide the necessary peace keeping resources to Rwanda, to prevent this from happening.
