How did it go
The spiritual atom bomb which the revolutionary people possess is a far more powerful and useful weapon than the physical atom bomb. - Lin Biao

Our code of morals is our revolution. What saves our revolution, what helps our revolution, what protects our revolution is right, is very right and very honourable and very noble and very beautiful, because our revolution means justice

I gotta admit, I wasn't there, Berlin is VERY far away from where I live.
But overall it was a success, the Nazis by far couldn't march the route they planned before, and only could start their march with about 5 hour delay because of the huge anti-fascist resistance they had to face. The fascists where protected by a massive amount of cops, who had to cudgel the way free for the scum.
It hard to get any numbers, and they are varying depending on the source, some sources speak of 1000 fascists, others of 3000, same for the counter-protesters, who have been up to 5000 according to an Indymedia article.
Here are some pics and a video link:

Well if it is like in Denmark then there is always a part of the protesters who just go along with the demonstration just for the kick of destroying things. They of course claim to be anti-fascists, but in reality they just like streetfights.
In my oppinion that is so damaging for building a large opposition to the nazis, that we should indeed boot those people out.

It's a fucking Mercedes, so it's a legitimate target.
Seriously, I think it was not targeted for any specific reasons, it was just used to build barricade to stop the Nazi march.

I think Malte is right. The anti-fascist resistance needed to build a barricade, so they just made use of the Mercedes.

There is nothing wrong with car flipping. There are many legitimate reasons to flip cars. Here are a few

From an environmental standpoint: Cars are a waste of resources and pollute our atmosphere. Therefore, we should destroy them.
From a militant standpoint: Destroying the fascist cars will bring a crushing blow to the Nazis since no one will give them a ride back home.
From a political standpoint: Fuck the bourgeoisie!
From a protest standpoint (as Malte mentioned): To build a barricade.

Anyway, I’m glad to hear it went so well. I wish I could have been there.

Most ordinary workers have cars.
All you guys is doing is alienating those people we need to get on our side.
Also you can build barricades out of other things.
If some little jerk smashed my car (if I had one) I would give him a severe beating, even if he calls himself "socialist".

From an environmental standpoint: Cars are a waste of resources and pollute our atmosphere. Therefore, we should destroy them.
Many people need cars for going to work. We should instead work to make them less polluting. This can already be done, the oilindustry just buys the designs so it never gets out.

From a militant standpoint: Destroying the fascist cars will bring a crushing blow to the Nazis since no one will give them a ride back home.
Cars are not fascist. Also you can get a Mercedes quite cheap in Germany. Not like in the US were it is high status.

From a political standpoint: Fuck the bourgeoisie!
And this makes absolutely no sense. It's not only the bourgiosie that has cars.

From a protest standpoint (as Malte mentioned): To build a barricade.
Build a barricade with something else. Instead of destroying the sympathy people have with our course.

Believe me Teis, a Mercedes is NOT cheap in Germany!!! Where did you got that from, that's utter bullshit! It's really not a a "working clas car" at all...

No they don’t. Most workers don’t even have electricity.

Many people need cars for going to work.
By working, those people are helping the enemy. Under socialism they would not need cars. So taking away their cars is a step in the right direction.

Cars are not fascist.
You’re right. Cars are not fascist. The fascists are fascist. When I said “fascist cars”, what I meant was the cars that are owned by the fascist. It was a typo. I should have said “fascist’s cars” instead of “fascist cars”.

It's not only the bourgeoisie that has cars.
Most of the working class does not own cars. Most, if not all, of the bourgeoisie own cars. Thus, cars are a symbol of the rich. Destroying them (the expensive ones) is basically the same as saying: Fuck the rich! So destroying cars has a political meaning.

destroying the sympathy people have with our course.
If they drive a Mercedes (unless its a really cheap one, if there is such a thing) I doubt they have our sympathy with our cause to begin with. So I’m not sure what sympathy you are referring to.

Well I live in Denmark the neighbor country too Germany...
And have been there several times, also sleeping in squatted houses in Berlin.
So I know the "punk/anti-fascistscene" down there. And some of these people is only into it for the fun of smashing. Also you can get a used Mercedes quite cheap. (and it is actually a good investment because it can last for a longer time than other cars).
The point im trying to make is that actions like this alienate us from the people who should be sympathetic to our course.
Of course if there was street fighting and we were close at a takeover of power it would be another situation, but this is not the case with all those demonstrations. (and i've been to quite a few).

We are not talking about the third world but about Germany, an industrialised nation! Like in Denmark workers have electricity. And (surprise, surprise) drive around in cars!

By working, those people are helping the enemy. Under socialism they would not need cars. So taking away their cars is a step in the right direction.
By working they are trying to live. You know clothe their kids and get something to eat? In your oppinion they should just lay on the streets and die?
Also we would also have transportation under socialism. Taking away cars from people who is not rich is ruining them economically, that's selfish and disgusting.

Also let's try to look behind the mercedes thing. I have seen punks smashing cheap cars. Just because they wanted fun. It's that whole mentality of "me, me, me" im reacting against. Yes you are allowed to have a good time, but as other people it shouldn't be done on the expense of others.

A majority of the workers in the world do not live in industrialized nations. Industrialized nations depend on the work of the third world to have their cars and electricity. If you cared about your fellow workers, you would care about the workers in the third world.

By working they are trying to live. You know clothe their kids and get something to eat? In your oppinion they should just lay on the streets and die?
My opinion is not that the workers should die. My opinion is that workers should find others means of survival other than working for transnational corporations. Yes, I realize in some cases they have no choice. But they should at least make an attempt to ride a bike and use other alternative means to get to and from work.

Yes I care about the workers of the third world but also of the workers of the industrialised nations. I live in one and we need them to make a revolution here you know?
And it's a silly thing to say that it is the workers who exploit other people. It is the capitalists. The workers of the developed world create a surplus, just as the workers in the third world. Throgh years of fighting they have just gotten a bigger percentage.

You can't live "outside of capitalism" when living in a capitalist society. People need clothes, food, housing, putting kids through school, kindergarten etc. Also they need to save up some money so they can have some money when they get old and can't work. For all this they need a job. The problem with the public transport is that it is getting destroyed. But yes people can also use bicycles and trains. But alot need cars because the public transport is getting destroyed and prices get higher. Also alot of people live far away from their workingplace because the houses are cheaper outside of the major cities, so they need a car for going to work

Indirectly, workers exploit other workers. And they do so without even knowing it.

Next time you go to the Supermarket to buy sugar, stop for a minute to think of where that sugar comes from.

Your sugar most likely comes from people in the Caribbean (descendents of slaves from colonial times) working their ass off in the field cutting sugar canes for a multinational corporation. While they are not “slave”, it would not make much difference if they were. Their wage is so low that all they can afford are the most basic things they need to survive. The sugar cane gets shipped off to Europe where they refine it and put it in your supermarket. When you buy the sugar, you support this exploitation and allow it to continue. So you, indirectly, exploit other workers.

There is a way out. Boycott goods make buy multinational corporations. Try buying food from your local farmers. Buy clothes that are not made in sweatshops. Don’t buy luxury items. Doing these things will put a stop to workers exploiting workers.

It is cheaper to use public transit than it is to buy a car and use a car when you consider all the costs the go with a car. A car needs gas, insurance, and repairs. This makes owning a car be expensive. Hell, I know a dumbass that is working 2 jobs just to pay for his new car. If he had used public transit instead, he wouldn’t have that problem.

If what you say about public transit being destroyed is true, than the likely reason for this is that not enough people are using it. Hardly anyone actually needs a car. If you don’t have public transit, use a bike. Or if a bike is too slow, use a bike that has an engine.

what utter bullshit.

Are you suggesting we boycott any good that has used exploited labour? So we all starve naked in the cold. YOU GENIUS!

You talk bollocks man, the solution is workers control, not buying free trade goods, who will this support, the boss who exploits less? great...

So in protest, we all try and decrease our own living standards in addition to what Kamo said.
There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror... --- Mark Twain

If we want to actually change anything we need to take action. Boycotting goods made through exploitation will loosen corporation’s chokehold on the world. Once they become weakened, it will become easier for us to take control.

If you don’t like my suggestion, then what do you suggest we do?

Boycotts will only work on a mass basis.
