In a world where it is every man for himself, and people unintentionally let others starve because they are so hungry themselves, and we justify the abuse and exploitation of other human beings.........how do you expect us to treat the animals?
Do you really think their going to get respect if we cant even respect each other?

Animal rights in a system that barely cares about human beings?! Come on!

Of course the capitalist system today seems to care nothing for animal rights (or human rights for that matter). This disregared for animals is driven by mainly two things. First the view of animals as either private property or instruments of production. Today people "own" a pet, labs use animals for inhumane experementation, and animals are exploited for their work power or their milk and meat. The issue of animal rights is mainly an issue of the Left because exploitation is at its core.
The other cause is speciesism. People simply dont see human beings as just another form of animal. Since most Commies are materialist they should recognize their common ancestory with other animals. Animals are just another form of life here on earth and we need to treat "all" life as sacred.

"There's no way to cause pain and suffering in an attemp to alliviate pain and suffering for another species. That's speciesism and it's directly analogous to sexism and racism and ageism and the other kinds of social inequities that we deal with today."
No solid foundation for the suffering, we inflict useless pain. A sacrifice for profit, fulfilling the quota, nothing is gained. Denounce the role that animals play. Why do they die? Selfish lust imprisoned by your vanity, cleansed with guilt. In these tests the subjects always fail, needlessly they die. Images of pain squeeze through your narrow mind. What does the human race gain? (Are we so obsessed with death that we can not break free from its grips?) - Suffering Quota by Assuck
"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin."

Just because most americans are capppy pigs doesnt mean all are. Of course in a country this big {in population and in body mass}, there are going to be people that care, and people who dont. Even if its 2% out of a billion people, thats a lot. And even if it does only save a few animals, atleast you've made a difference in those few.

Its not just in america and its not just about being cappie pigs. How about being so poor that you are just glad to have something to eat for dinner at night. The difference those two percent make is wonderful, but dont expect so much more regard for the animals in a world where we cant even reguard eachother.

This is true and it is a shame. What you said about the people and their dogs here is what leads me to believe the world is going into two distinct directions. I always look at the ants on my wall and feel stupid thinking about killing them because they act more sensible for each other then we do. We as humans have a choice, like Dr.King said. We can live together as brothers or we can perish together as fools.

People who think they own pets are stupid. This i can guarantee you. Pets such as cats stay with you because they want to. Their is nothing to stop them going off if they want to, and i speak from experiance on this one. Having lost a cat in the past, not that some cats dont stick around, Ive got a cat who is aged 17 at the moment, and we got her when she was a kitten.

Cats are not property because they can get up and leave anytime they like.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

I agree, a pet is not property, he/she is your friend that understands you even more than most people do. My cat always hangs out with me, and there's a very strong bond between us to the point where he follows me all over my house, since he loves keeping me company.

Before I bother with something as trivial as animal "rights" I would prefer to get some of my own.

Unfortunately it seems to majority of the left would rather make sure non-sentient chickens "don't get mistreated" before they hit the pressure cooker at Popeye's rather then get out of the pressure cooker they currently live in.

Truly amazing.

Sadly.....RAF you are right. I dont hate animals or anything like that, but I dont believe that they will acheive very much if the majority of us are not.
If you belive in emancipating animals, you should also fight to emancipate people first, beacuse if not, you are fighting in vain.

The ability for our world to continue depends on multiple species.

Capitalism requires only the best meat to market, as a result our oceans are over fished and often tons of fish are thrown away on a daily basis due to quality issues.

We need to stop this, I know for a fact the Japanese are the worst offenders on throwing out fish and keeping the eggs from my time in Alaska [Mistubishi among others were wasteful beyond what I could endure] not that US companies aren't the worst in other respects.

Our environment is a sustainable web, once the other mammals are gone we will die, end of story. Took a bunch of friends of disabilities, to see such animals as grey wolves on the endangered list due to the cattle industry made me cry. Most people were there to see wolves and grizzlies, local animals, people just watched silently, many close to tears especially the elderly to see the noble animals they had known so inclosed and to be endangered was heartbreaking.

We are killing ourselves.

Damn right we are. The environment is one of the most important parts of our survival. We lose the wildlife, we lose ourselves. This is one of the things that has to be considered when the Revolution comes.

I'm REALLY sick of this.

Now I don't hate animals or anything, but when people call themselves revolutionaries and then give "emancipation of animals" a higher priority than the revolution, it is pure ignorance.

Hello, comrades.
I personally completely support animal research. They should have no rights at all, if it impedes human progress.

Firstly, because of how using animals in experiments is of great benefit to us. We're able to do things that would never be allowed on humans, and therefore a lot of important discoveries and knowledge has been gained in this field. When health or products for appearance come on the market, most of the time you know they're safe. Why? Because their safety will have been tested on animals. Thanks to this we have reliable and safe products. Also in the scientific field, lots of gains have been made, like finding drugs and treatments for illnesses. Or locating what parts of the brain do what, and how they interact. Also in psychology there is a lot of benefits of testing on animals. Unlike with humans, there is none of the emotional problems to prevent certain experiments, research on animals is all in all an excellent way of improving our own civilisation.

Secondly because we are the dominant species. We have the power to use animals like this, and this is as close as being given the right to as there is. If we dont, then its a slippery slope. Do you know that there is research that suggests plants can feel pain? So where does it end? In us only eating and using synthetic materials perhaps. Plus I severely doubt when a bear is catching a fish, it takes care to make sure the fish dies quickly. Nature requires us to use animals, and with us at the top of the food chain, it makes it inevitable.

Thatcher, you are a good example of how uncompassionate right-wingers can be.

Vivisection on animals is evil. It is the abuse and murder of creatures that cannot refuse this treatment and cannot fight back.

We are not the dominant species, we just happened to be successful in our evolution.

You are right about Nature. The bear doesnt care, but that is Nature. We do not need to abuse an animal just to survive.

Evil? Tsk tsk, an ambiguous, religious and subjective term.
Indeed, it involves abusing animals, you refrain from including that it is to great benefit for ourselves, though. They cannot refuse or fight back, no. Even if they could, it should still occur. As I said, nature has no problems with the dominant species making use of its power, and neither do I.

We are not the dominant species, we just happened to be successful in our evolution.
I disagree. We have power over all the other animals on the earth, and are the best suited to manipulate the environment. We are also the most advanced. Are we always worrying about those higher in the food chain killing us? No, because there is none.

You are right about Nature. The bear doesnt care, but that is Nature. We do not need to abuse an animal just to survive
I think you will find we ourselves are just animals, a part of nature. It is ok for the bear not to care about rival species, but we on the otherhand are not allowed to, you are saying. That is contradictory.
Yes, we do need to abuse animals to survive. We would no doubt be medically less advanced if drugs werent tested on animals, this would have caused deaths. Products and foods would also not have been tested as much as they have been, and would be less safe. This may have caused certain problems, such as allergies, or other bad effects to be overlooked. Again, given the amount we consume, I'm sure this would have caused some to die.
