While I personally have nothing against religion (hell I"m a buddhist) I find the overwhelming majority of people on earth are hardlined creationists. Now I don't presnally care what you believe, but for some reason I don't see the experiements of Stanley Miller mentioned enough.

While these experiments were conducted by people other than miller, his are probably the most famous.

For those of you unfammiliar with these experiements, Miller and otehrs were able to produce everyone of the Amino Acids by recreating the conditions on early earth. Of course this is all you hear about the experiments.

However there are additions to the experiements. Sidney Fox heatted the amino acids and produced polypetides. However it does not stop here.

Two forms of cell like, semi-living organisms were formed. coacervate droplets, which contain genetic information (dna or RNA) surrounded by a membrane of water molecules. And pretenoid microsphers a more stable cell like semi living organism with a real membrane.

These two "organisms" act like cells, reproduce like cells, and use/create STP like cells. Of course there is one more thing I left out.

The Naked gene hypothesis. Similar to the prion, a cancer causing agent that is essentialy a naked strand of DNA. This theory asserts that the macromolecules that formed on early earth attached to an inanimate object and were self replicating.

Each one of these is a possibility, and each one has been created. So I wonder why there isn't a lot more researc done on these things. Sure the Scientific community does work on these things, but you never hear about it outside the scientific community.

Granted it does not lay the science vs. religion debate to rest. But the ball is in science's court now.

    lardlad,

the ball has always been in sciences court, science can't answer the questions that need answering, just as religion can't and religion just passes all evidence off with the ignorance of blind faith only science can end this debate, but which way is unknown.

do you want it to end really? i mean everyone faces the chance of themselves and the entire structure and outlook being overturned,

if buddism is prooved then youwill be fine but if christianity is prooved how would you feel? just a thought

WHich Christianity? Have you read the Nag Hammadi text? This type of Christianity is only the way it is because the gnostics lost the power struggle. So if nostic Christianity is right, it is damn close to Buddhism.

If modern christianity is right then I guess I"m going to hell. But I would hope that a compassionate god wouldn't send someone to hhell because of a disagreement.

Also my real question is why more people don't mention stanley miller.

Actually, science is "rich" in theoretical "possibilities" for the origins of life.

One version actually has ordinary clays as the starting point ("out of dust thou wert made and to dust thou shalt return" ).

Another suggests that the hot volcanic springs at the bottom of the ocean were the birthplaces of life.

At least some amino-acids have been discovered in the dust clouds surrounding new-born stars...and it's been suggested that the cometary bombardment that the new planets undergo gives life a "head start".

The "truly faithful" are not interested in any of this stuff, of course. If they knew about it, they'd probably dismiss it all as "the work of the devil".

But there are plenty of scientists fascinated by the problem...which bodes well for solving it.

Perhaps before this century is over.

The important thing is that we can all now play god. This si what we'll do, che-lives will embark on an evolution program. We'll each complete one of the life creating experiments. New members will join the different teams down the years.

The first one to get a multi celled organism wins a trip to whats left of Cuba.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An important note, you would think that the experiments would atleast be discussed a bit more. Instead the news decides to cover Brittany spear's third marriage.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Granted religion has an icy grip on the world, but I was pretty sure that censoring science went out of style 300 years ago

Miller did get some interesting results, but let's not forget (Comrade) A.I. Oparin!

Yeah oparin was the first to do teh experiements and he developed unstable forms of the cell like things miller created

the question is, how did it all appear? what actually created matter? then how did this matter become alive? the answers can completely disprove religion in it's entirity.

Ever hear of the blanket universe theory? If not tell me and I'll explain it
