on my netscape homepage a couple days ago, they said syphilis was on the rise. they also said it may replace AIDS if it continues to grow so rapidly. thoughts on it??? anyone else heard anything about it??

It's possible it's on the rise however I do not believe it will "replace" AIDS.
(I reckon you mean replace AIDS as the current most commonly know epidemic.)
The reasons are as such.
A) HIV is a retro-virus that replicates itself by actually bonding with the hosts DNA. The only cure I am aware for this disease is to kill all existing traces of the retro virus in the body by way of eliminating the retro virus' lipid envelope while simultaneously applying somatic HGE treatments which consist of introducing a benign viral agent containing the corrected gene(s) into the cells that control the production of CD4-T cells.
B) Syphilis is a bacterial disease that is easily curable with the proper anti-biotic treatments.

There are so many interesting new ideas being put forth to try and halt the progress of AIDs. Of course there are many interesting theories about HIV in the 50s among British soldiers, and also in ancient Egypt. Sounds like a crock to me (idea #2 at least, for a variety of reasons). They are trying to find naturally dormant strains of the virus that they can somehow use to supplant and replace the virulant ones. There is some hope in this, but it looks like something not possible in the near future, and something that will probably never reach the ones who need it most.
We have drugs that can slow down the virus (look at any celebrity with AIDs- They probably aren't dead yet), but they are very costly.
Actually, HIV is a growing problem in Russia and researchers speculate that the Russio-Norwegan Border is has the highest gradient in AIDs cases between two neighboring countries. that came out bad, I guess, but you know what I mean.
Or draughts of Mercury, if your Al Capone. It was also something that was a real problem in Egypt.

i think its bad and needs to be addressed but its an STD education education education, protection, prevention, protection, i know it you know why does everyone ignore it. STD's are not a joke
