USPCN is calling on people across the U.S. to protest, rally, and march in support of the Right of Return for all Palestinian refugees and their descendants! The 70th commemoration of Al-Nakba ("the Catastrophe") is next week, and it is certain that besides the #GreatReturnMarch in Gaza, Palestinians in 1948, Jerusalem, and the West Bank will also be rallying for the Right of Return, as well as protesting Trump's moving of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, scheduled for Nakba Day as well.

Over 50 Palestinians in Gaza have been massacred by the Israeli military, with thousands injured, and except for a few Congresspeople and Senators, the U.S. government has been silent.

We denounce Israel’s terrorist attacks on our people, as well as Trump’s provocation, a dastardly move that abets Israel's attempts to expropriate more Palestinian land, to push more Palestinians out of their homes, and to claim for itself the Palestinian capital of Jerusalem.

Israel acts with impunity and is emboldened by Trump (as like all U.S. Presidents since Truman before him) to commit its crimes against the Palestinian people. Contact your Senators and demand that they condemn the killings, and force Israel to end its attacks on Gaza and all Palestinians.

Also join USPCN in Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, San Francisco (see flyers and FB event pages below), and other cities across the country, as we commemorate #Nakba70 and demand that the U.S. government end its complicity in Israel's crimes.

THIS FRIDAY - March for Gaza, Commemorate 70 Years of Nakba

Next week will mark 70 years since over 800,000 Palestinian people were expelled from their homes, 500 villages were destroyed and thousands killed by armed militias that went on to establish the State of Israel.

Seventy years later, after decades of ongoing dispossession, massacres and Occupation - and steadfast resistance from Palestinians - Israeli snipers have killed at least 45 protesters in Gaza marching for their Right to Return. Thousands have been injured.

This Friday, we are proud that Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago is one of the endorsing organizations for the Palestinian-led "Protest for #Nakba70 & the Right of Return: Stop The Massacre in Gaza." The rally and march kick off at 4:30 pm Friday, May 11 at the intersection of Congress Parkway and Michigan Avenue in Downtown chicago.

You can RSVP here to join the Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago contingent. We'll send an email by Friday morning about exactly where to find us, but if in doubt, just look for our banner!

Throughout the month of May, join us to learn about, and honor, the memory of what was lost during the 1948 Nakba.

    - Facing the Nakba Workshop: Saturday, May 19, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Luther Memorial Church at 2500 W. Wilson in Chicago: Participate in JVP's "Facing the Nakba" workshop as part of Tzedek Chicago's Tikkun Leyl Shavuot. RSVP HERE.

    - Movie Screening - "Remembering the Nakba": Tuesday, May 22, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Room 205 at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary 2121 Sheridan Road, Evanston. Join us for a screening of Maryse Gargour's documentary film: "The Nakba: The Land Speaks Arabic." RSVP HERE.

    Thank you,

Today, Monday, May 14th, Trump officially moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have escalated their protests across the West Bank and Gaza. These protesters have been met with live Israeli bullets--over 40 Palestinians have been killed and 1,700 injured, JUST TODAY!

This latest massacre comes on the heels of five weeks of sustained Palestinian protests demanding the Right of Return for all Palestinian refugees and their descendants, to the original homes and lands they were exiled from during the Nakba.

USPCN-Chicago led a strong and passionate protest last Friday (see video here), and we are reminding everyone below of more actions in cities across the country, including Milwaukee, Detroit, DC, Santa Fe, NY, SF, and Chicago again.

Our friends at Samidoun have put together this global calendar of events here. And the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights has a comprehensive U.S.-based one here.

PROTEST IN THE STREETS and CONTACT YOUR SENATORS:

Israel acts with impunity and is emboldened by Trump to commit its crimes against the Palestinian people. Contact your Senators and demand that they condemn the killings, and force Israel to end its attacks on Gaza and all Palestinians.

Default #Nakba70, Great Return March and Jerusalem [NYC, 5-18]

Bay Ridge rallies for #Nakba70, Great Return March and Jerusalem

    By Jessica Schwartz

New York, NY - Over 200 people gathered in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for a press conference, rally and march, May 14, in response to moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, the historical capital of Palestine. It also marked 70 years since the Nakba, or the catastrophe, where Palestinians were driven from their homes. The protest stood in solidarity with the Great Return March, and took place right after the massacre of Palestinian protesters in Gaza.

The event started with a press conference. The organizations represented included those in the NY4Palestine coalition, as well as other organizations that support Palestine. Nerdeen Kiswani from Within Our Lifetime - United for Palestine introduced the press conference, stating, “Today is a historic day in Bay Ridge, because the Palestinian community here that has existed for decades is standing up and declaring themselves as a part of the Great Return March.” Bay Ridge is a particularly symbolic location, as it has a large Palestinian population, and is nicknamed “Little Palestine.”

After the press conference, the crowd rallied and then marched around the neighborhood. Protesters led chants and waved Palestinian flags, receiving attention from residents in the area.

The action was organized by NY4Palestine and was a lead-up event to Nakba Day 2018: Great Return March protest set for Friday May 18 at 3 p.m. in Times Square. For more details about that action, visit the Facebook event page here.
