Saturday Protests in 17 Cities: Trump/Pence Regime MUST GO!
Letter from Carl Dix, co-Founder, Stop Mass Incarceration Network, and an initiator of Refuse Fascism

We are at a critical juncture. The fascist Trump/Pence regime is pressing ahead with its fascist agenda on every front, launching attack after attack on Muslims, immigrants, women, Black and Latino people, LBGTQ people, the media and everybody's political and legal rights. The National Rifle Association and other reactionary forces are calling on their supporters to serve as shock troops for this fascist reordering of society.
Gil Scott Heron said in “Watergate Blues” - “It's looking like Europe in '38. Did they move to stop Hitler before it was too late?” That question is up right now, and we must answer it definitively by acting to call forth the millions and millions of people who hate everything this regime represents and agonize over what it will mean for humanity if these fascists have their way. We must say: NO, not this time fascists. We must drive this regime from office.
Join in the protests happening nationwide on July 15 (below), spread the word on these protests online and in other ways, and donate to help make this effort as strong as possible. For more information here.

Carl

National Rifle Association Calls Its Supporters ‘To Arms’ Against Critics of Trump

This statement was issued by: Carl Dix, Sunsara Taylor, Cornel West and Andy Zee; who initiated RefuseFascism.org.
We Must Support Those Under Attack
July 10, 2017
The National Rifle Association (NRA) recently put out two lurid and inflammatory videos. The first essentially called on the followers of the NRA, and Trump supporters generally, to attack those who are dissenting, protesting and resisting the imposition of this regime’s draconian measures. When some people protested this, they released a second video which continued in this same vein and raised the stakes by naming, and attacking, Tamika Mallory of the Women’s March, DeRay McKesson of Campaign Zero, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsome of California, and Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut.
The mobilizing of the minions and trolls of this regime to go after specific individuals is not only chilling but could directly endanger those individuals. Particularly in the case of Tamika Mallory and DeRay McKesson – African-American activists who are explicitly attacked for their associations with important movements for social justice – this is extremely chilling and must be opposed, especially given the history and current-day reality both of the US in general and the particular persons wielding power in this regime. This is also true for Linda Sarsour, a Palestinian-American Muslim activist who has also come under vicious attack from the extreme right. The warning of Pastor Martin Niemoller in Germany — that “first they came for the Communists and I did nothing, for I was not a communist, then they came for the Jews, but I did nothing for I was not a Jew…” and so on down the line – must be taken to heart and the grievous mistake that he criticizes must not be repeated in today’s circumstances.
We state our solidarity with those who have been singled out and declare as loudly as we can, “NOT this time, fascists.”

The Right to Self-Defense, Black People, and the NAZI Rifle Association
by Joe Veale
July 3, 2017 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us
When Philando Castile, a Black man, was stopped by police in Minnesota for a supposed traffic violation, he calmly told the police he had a licensed gun. The pig blew him away, and walked free. And the National Rifle Association—the big defenders of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, the “right to bear arms”—suddenly fell silent.
Why? For starters, when this amendment was adopted, Black people were slaves. Said to be only 3/5 of a human being. Black people were made the property of rich white plantation owners.
The slave ALWAYS wants to kill the slave master. So of course there would be no “right to bear arms,” just as there would be no other rights. In fact, the whole point of this amendment in the first place was to enable slave owners, as well as those who were stealing land from Native American Indians, to form up militias to enforce this thievery, murder and enslavement.
When slavery and capitalism could no longer coexist and slavery was abolished through a Civil War—the system of white supremacy was held in place by Jim Crow and the sharecropping system that served the capitalist system. And this system was held in place by the right of white men to bear arms—to carry out lynching and other forms of terror against Black people.
But the oppressor ALWAYS FEARS those it oppresses. The oppressed ALWAYS want to throw off that which torments them. ALWAYS want to get the boot of oppression off of their necks.
As Black people came into the cities, the police—still backed up by armed white mobs and the kinds of racist vigilantes who killed Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis and Renisha McBride—became the new enforcers of oppression.
Now we are living in times when those who rule this system have put a straight-up Hitler—a regime of fascists, Nazis, KKK pigs and women-hating thugs—in the driver’s seat to govern their system, to meet the challenges they face in the world.
Including some of the challenges they face here—bringing down the New Jim Crow on people even harder—because this same system finds it has no profitable use for millions of Black and other oppressed people, leaving them in situations where they are forced to compete with each other in the illegal economy—with its rules of revenge and retaliation.
All this backed up and enforced through this system’s judicial system—which allows murdering pigs to walk over and over—again, again and again—each time they say: “I feared for my life…” as they gun down—in cold blood—a Black person.
Those in the ruling class desperately FEAR Black people exercising their “right” to bear arms in this situation. And now the so-called National Rifle Association—which should more correctly be called the NAZI Rifle Association and which was so silent on Philando Castile—loudly calls on its minions to “bear arms” to help them in this and other atrocities and fascist repression.
When the Oppressed Defend Themselves…
But when the oppressed begin to righteously defend themselves against their oppressor and his violent, illegitimate actions, then that system and all that holds it together can begin to come apart.
The Deacons for Defense and Justice, a Black group, exercised their “right” to defend civil rights activists against white racist lynch mobs, the KKK, and the sheriffs in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama during the 1960s. They did it according to law.
Robert Williams did the same thing in North Carolina, leading armed self-defense of the Black community against the KKK.
Later, in Oakland, California, Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and the Black Panther Party legally armed themselves and patrolled the police to make sure the police would not get away with brutalizing or murdering Black people.
What did the powers that be do? Did they support, applaud, encourage, and back people for exercising their right to bear arms? HELL NO!
In each case the FBI, together with the KKK and the local police, illegally bugged people—set people up on charges that could mount to decades and life in prison—murdered or attempted to set up people for murder—hounded people out of the country—for exercising the “right” to bear arms—for righteously defending themselves against illegitimate attack, whether carried out by the KKK or the police.
The oppressor ALWAYS fears those it oppresses exercising the "right" to bear arms.
Why? Because when the oppressor’s ability to get away with dehumanizing, brutalizing, and murdering people is met with self-defense, then the lines are drawn sharply for everyone in society—and the question is sharply posed:
Who is just in exercising the right to bear arms? Those who represent a system that cannot do without such savage inequality and oppression—or those who exercise the “right” to bear arms to defend themselves against those who enforce such dehumanizing and illegitimate oppression?

Call for Volunteers: "Trump and Pence Must Go" protest Sat, 7/15,
From: "Refuse Fascism, Chicago" <[email protected]>
In the name of humanity we refuse to accept a fascist America
It's up to us, friends--
July 15 is less than two days away. As Refuse Fascism's Call for July 15 says, "On July 15th 'The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go,' must be spoken, shouted, and acted on with fiercely creative determination. We have righteously marched for women, for science, for the climate, for immigrants, for Black Lives, for LGBTQ Pride. Now the resistance must pull together to drive this regime from power."
In Chicago:
Saturday, July 15, Michigan and Congress (at the “Horse” statue)
If you’re on Facebook, it’s not too late to invite friends and share our event.
We are all volunteers in this battle and there is much that you can do to make July 15 the truly powerful protest demanded by the urgent need to drive out the fascist Trump regime.
1. Friday will be an all day work party at our office, making posters, assembling banners, getting together materials for the rally and march. We will start at 10am and go into the evening, until everything is done. If you can help for an hour or the whole day, send us an email or call 312-933-9586 for details.
2. Can you help with the day-of activities? Volunteers are needed for set-up, people who will get there early and help assemble the rally site, e.g. unload materials, hang banners, put up posters etc. We will have people at Congress and Michigan by 10:30am, so if you can help with set-up, please come as early as you can.
3. People are needed to help get out flyers to those arriving and passersby. Please arrive by 11am if you can.
4. We have several contingents to bring alive the fact that the targets of the Trump regime's attacks are full human beings, and "No!, We will not accept the cruel and brutal future of the Trump Pence Regime..they must Go!": Handmaid's Tale (costumes provided or bring your own if you have one); orange jumpsuits (representing prisoners, journalists, and other targets of the Trump regime, jumpsuits provided); Trump, Pence and other anti-fascist puppets, help carry them in the march; Earth/No Planet B, help carry flags and posters that portray our precious, endangered planet. If you want to join a contingent, come at 11 am and look for the contingent you want to hook up with.
5. Music to provide rhythm and energy for the rally and march. We need instruments of all kinds, especially drums, but horns, tambourines, kazoos. Come at 11am and look for people with drums.
6. Can you bring or drop off water to keep the resisters hydrated? It will be sunny in the 80s--we all will appreciate your support!
7. Very important: Bring your own signs, posters, banners, puppets, noise, FRIENDS and SPIRIT!
If you know in advance what contingent you want to join, drop us a line or call 312-933-9586.

RiseUp! Something new got started on July 15!
RiseUp! Something new got started on July 15!
Chris --

Letter from Carl Dix, co-Founder of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network
Something new got started on July 15!
Friends,
Something new got started on July 15. On that day people in 19 cities across the US took to the streets and put the demand: THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME MUST GO; on the map. Organized by RefuseFascism.org, this mobilization really matters. In several major cities the marchers numbered in the hundreds. In Houston, the march was confronted by the Texas Freedom Force which had called on Trump supporters to come out displaying weapons and confederate flags to intimidate the protest. In Los Angeles and Cleveland, the marchers also had to step out in the face of organized counter protests of Trump supporters.
As RefuseFascism said in its speech that was read at all the protests:
To all who stood up on July 15th – in 18 cities to say In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America! and did so in several cities in the face of the hateful vitriol and in one case violence of the Trump Fascist ghouls, WE SALUTE YOU!
Hundreds, in several major cities, took to the streets and raised a unified demand: THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME MUST GO! This signifies something new. An organized force proposing a bold plan to demand that an entire regime be removed from power because it is fascist and what that would mean for the future of humanity and the planet. Everyone who stepped out today, everyone who threw their heart into organizing for today should know, we have put this demand, the stand and organization of RefuseFascism.org on the map.
I urge you to read: Full message from Refuse Fascism
