Barrio Homecoming for Oscar Lopez Rivera
The day after his release from custody, Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar Lopez Rivera returned to his old neighborhood in Chicago, having been incarcerated for over 35 years by the colonialist U.S. Government. Oscar's dramatic reunion with his supporters began in Puerto Rico the day before, and will continue elsewhere in the months to come. But nowhere else than in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, on May 18, 2017, could a more heartfelt embrace for Oscar be imaginable. Here is where his example as a community builder took root. Interviews with old friends, community activists, and a fellow political prisoner of Oscar's underline the emotions in the barrio on this day, ending with an unforgettable mass procession down Division Street.
