Education is key! That's why we're excited about Palestine Advocacy Day 2017!
Bringing Palestinian voices to Capitol Hill
Our biggest Advocacy Day yet set to begin on Saturday!
Ten years ago, I was the metro editor on a daily newspaper in Illinois, but for the past eight years I've been a staunch advocate for Palestinian rights. In fact, I left my job to work for Palestine full-time. What caused this transformation?
EDUCATION.
Education is key and that's why it's AMP's mission. Several years ago, Israel enjoyed unanimous support in Congress. Today, because of advocacy and education efforts, ever more legislators understand that U.S. support for Israel means going against the values we hold so dear - liberty, justice and self-determination. There's a sea change taking place. We've seen legislators ask President Obama for a special envoy for Palestinian children and senators ask the State Department to investigate the Israeli military's violation of human rights. We've seen 61 members of Congress skip a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and, oh, so much more!.
Now, more than ever, we need to build relationships with our legislators here in Washington and in their home districts. That's why we're so excited that we'll have three times as many people attend our 3rd annual Palestine Advocacy Day and Training than last year!
In just three short days, we're welcoming dozens of students and community leaders for two full days of intensive training by policy and advocacy experts. They'll gain the skills they need to help their own communities learn how to effectively engage with lawmakers in their home districts. Then on Monday, May 1, we're set to meet with more than 50 congressional offices on the issues of settlements, the location of the U.S. embassy and Israel's treatment of Palestinians.
AMP is the only organization taking Palestinian Americans to Congress so our voices can be heard. We hope you're as excited as we are about taking our legislative education program to the next level. Please watch your inboxes from Saturday through Tuesday for updates, photos, and videos from PAD17!
If you'd like to help us defray the cost of this groundbreaking event, please consider making a tax-deductible donation. If you'd like to attend, please contact our associate director of outreach and grassroots organizing, Taher Herzallah.
Thanks for your continued support!
