The lives of hundreds of thousands of Yemeni children [1] lie in the hands of Maryland Senator Ben Cardin, ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, Senate Democratic Whip. If the U.S.-backed Saudi blockade of the Yemeni port of Hodeida [2] is not lifted within weeks, hundreds of thousands of Yemeni children face starvation. Pressure from Senator Cardin and Senator Durbin could be decisive in forcing the Saudis to lift the blockade.

The Trump Administration is moving towards selling even more weapons to Saudi Arabia. [3] This arms deal could be blocked by Congress. [4] As ranking Member on Senate Foreign Relations, Ben Cardin has unique influence on Congressional approval of arms deals. As Senate Democratic Whip, Dick Durbin has unique influence on Ben Cardin.
