Free "Sonic Sea" Film Screening in Chicago, March 9!

NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council)

Chris,

Please join us at the Institute of Cultural Affairs on March 9 for a special free screening of NRDC's documentary film "Sonic Sea" as part of the One World Film Festival. Admission is free but you must register due to limited seating.

Once quiet, our seas are now filled with a cacophony of noise unleashed by oil prospectors, freight ships and military vessels that is making it hard for whales and other marine animals to survive.

"Sonic Sea" explores these devastating effects through the gripping story of a former U.S. Navy officer, Ken Balcomb, who solved the mystery of a mass whale stranding and forever changed the way we understand our impact on the ocean.

Narrated by Rachel McAdams, the film features Sting and ocean luminaries Jean-Michel Cousteau, Dr. Sylvia Earle and Dr. Christopher Clark. "Sonic Sea" was produced by NRDC and Imaginary Forces in association with the International Fund for Animal Welfare and Diamond Docs.

The 60-minute screening, which is part of the annual One Earth Film Festival, will be followed by a Q&A with NRDC's Daniel Hinerfeld, director of "Sonic Sea," and a conversation with local experts about Chicago's coastal zone and the fragile ecosystem in our own backyard. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

WHAT: "Sonic Sea" documentary screening and Q&A discussion with director Daniel Hinerfeld
WHEN: Thursday, March 9, 7-9 p.m. CST
WHERE: Institute of Cultural Affairs, 4750 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago

Again, admission is free but if you'd like to attend, please register here.

"Sonic Sea" aired globally on Discovery Channel and has won numerous awards, including Best Documentary at the United Nations Association Film Festival, the Science of Life Award at the Jackson Hole/WGBH Science Media Awards and a Golden Reel Award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors.

Visit www.SonicSea.org to find out more about the film and what you can do to protect marine life from the harmful impacts of ocean noise.

Hope you'll be able to make it on March 9!
