I read about this just this afternoon in the Mother Jones daily reporting section (read article here). It sounds improbable, but definately plausible in accordance with their own assessment.
It is certainly highly probable that there will be more imperialist wars, regardless of the state of energy/fresh water resources in coming decades.
That’s an ignorant statement even from you, the state of energy/fresh water is going to be hugely important in the future of imperialist wars. Cant support the American dream without fresh water and oil.
I don't think he was discounting all together the possibility of global climate change as a cause for imperialistic warfare, just that there will most certainly be such conflict no matter what. I should say, however, that the United $tates does not, at this point, seem interested in physically colonizing the globe. It does seem more intent on creating client states for the purposes of economic exploitation, otherwise known as neo-imperialism, as is the case in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Unfortunately, we do not have a progressive occupant in the White House. As a result, our military resources are stretched so thin that it appears as though the best we can do is send 50 Marines to Haiti to fortify the embassy when what we should be doing is contributing to a U.N. lead peacekeeping mission.
O, why should wrath be mute, and fury dumb?
I am no baby, I, that with base prayers
I should repent the evils I have done:
Ten thousand worse than ever yet I did
Would I perform, if I might have my will;
If one good deed in all my life I did,
I do repent it from my very soul.
