January 25: Trump tweeted that “if Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible ‘carnage’ going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!”

Many in Chicago have already speculated (including the Chicago Chief of Police) that Trump means to deploy the National Guard onto the streets, particularly the majority Black neighborhoods in this extremely segregated city.

This is a threat to send troops armed with lethal weapons into a city that he views as politically hostile territory and should be taken extremely seriously. Justifying violent repression of whole neighborhoods and sections of people viewed as “the enemy” is a classic fascist tactic to consolidate power and frighten people into submission. Fascist propaganda mouthpiece Greta Van Susteren called for the National Guard to be deployed to Chicago earlier this month, and others have pointed out that the fascist playbook requires the normalization of domestic military repression.

Refuse Fascism will meet again at 4:00 pm, State & Jackson, and march over together to the ANSWER emergency protest to defend immigrants against the Dept of Homeland at 5:00 pm at 536 S Clark Street. Invite your friends on Facebook.

There will be an important mass meeting on Sunday at 3:00 pm, Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E 26th, Chicago, to assess where we are and plan for the future.

But What ABOUT The Violence In Chicago?

In response to similar earlier threats the Revolution Club of Chicago has been distributing the statement below very widely among the youth on the street calling for them to “Truce to Stop Trump.” If you are a student, teacher, social worker, faith leader, spread this statement out to the youth:

“COME TOGETHER—TRUCE—TO STOP THE TRUMP-PENCE REGIME”
(statement initiated by an ex-prisoner who was once caught up with everything wrong with the street life and the Revolution Club of Chicago)

“Many of us from the bottom of society get caught up in a lot of fucked up shit because of the brutal and harsh conditions we are forced to live under. We have seen way too many of our loved ones and homies lose their lives to senseless and unnecessary violence. This violence and destruction is promoted and encouraged by the forces who really run this shit. In other words, they would like nothing more than for us to continue to kill and destroy ourselves. We are being played over and over again!

“Now is the time to stop being played. An openly racist, woman hating, and fascist Trump regime is in power. Yes, it’s true, no president prior gave a damn about a Black or Brown life. But it’s also true that shit is going to get a whole lot worse if we allow Trump to take hold—a whole worse world of hurt and pain for people we hold near and dear and for people all over the planet.

“Let’s be about real courage, real daring, real risk, and real meaning and come together and take on THESE fascists in massive defiant struggle.

“We need to rise above the petty beefs and clique tripping and get organized to fight the power. This is not about any one individual. This is about the fate of humanity and the planet.
