Default Jan 16 MLK Day: NO TRUMP! NO KKK! NO FASCIST USA! [Chicago]

Jan 16 MLK Day: NO TRUMP! NO KKK! NO FASCIST USA!

NO TRUMP! NO KKK! NO FASCIST USA!
    STOP THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME
    BEFORE IT STARTS!

MONDAY January 16, 2017, MLK Day

GATHER AT NOON IN DALEY PLAZA
(Dearborn and Washington in the Loop)

An openly racist, immigrant bashing, Muslim hating, woman degrading, fascist Trump regime is about to come to power, in less than 2 weeks. MLK Day highlights that Black people have been put through different forms of hell since the founding of this country – including right up to today. But this is going to get a whole lot worse if we allow Trump to take hold-–a whole worse world of hurt and pain for Black people, other people of color, gay people, and people all over the planet.

Trump is talking about more killer cops who already act like an occupying army in communities of the oppressed. Police who repeatedly murder and almost never face charges. They already murdered 2 unarmed people in Chicago in the first 4 days of 2017. Trump is talking about massive racial profiling thru massive stop-and-frisk. He is talking about MORE jails. And he is talking about flooding Chicago with federal agents to spy on and repress people who actually try to mobilize the people to go up against this. This is on top of unleashing the vile racist “blue lives matter” thugs that we already saw in Mt Greenwood.

You are crucial to making a reality of…
NO TRUMP! NO KKK! NO FASCIST USA! STOP THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME BEFORE IT STARTS!

The Trump regime must and can be stopped if all who hate what is represented by this fascist regime translate our outrage into massive mobilization to create the political conditions that make this possible. There is a plan (https://refusefascism.org/the-plan) to do just that, and we are mobilizing now to Bring DC to a Halt!

The events on MLK weekend around the country will be part of mobilizing that resistance, leading into a week of people refusing to stop, refusing to leave, standing up with courage and conviction to Bring DC to a Halt!

To the grade school, high school and college students we say: Join with students nationwide and organize walkouts on January 12 and 13 and then come together from all over the city on MLK day. Trump must be stopped!

To everyone who has protested police murder and brutality and called out “Black Lives Matter” we say: Use your experience and creativity in the streets from that struggle to Stop Trump. Be there MLK Day

To the churches: Bring out your congregations to stand on the side or morality and justice. Be there MLK Day.

To the youth in the neighborhoods that have been left to rot and targeted for destruction: STOP KILLING EACH OTHER--COME TOGETHER--TRUCE--TO STOP THE TRUMP/PENCE REGIME BEFORE IT STARTS! Rise above the petty beefs and set-tripping and get organized to fight the power. Let’s be about real courage, real daring, real risk and real meaning and come together and take on THESE fascists in massive defiant struggle. Manifest TOGETHER at this protest! Be there MLK Day

To people of all races and nationalities from the city and the suburbs: Be There MLK Day to Stop the Trump/Pence Regime! This is about the fate of humanity and the planet.

Remembering Dr. King’s Beyond Vietnam Speech

The 50th anniversary of MLK’s controversial denunciation of America’s war in Vietnam was commemorated in Chicago by a community reading of excerpts from Dr. King’s Beyond Vietnam speech. One of the readers was a Vietnam combat veteran, Steve Nelson, wearing his Vietnam service medal. The April 4, 2017 event was sponsored by Chicago Veterans for Peace and Borderbend Arts Collective. The speakers effectively channelled MLK and, though his words were spoken in 1967, their broader intent cannot help but resonate in today’s political climate of endless Middle East wars. King’s words, reembodied, are enhanced with historic photographs and rare, striking color posters from Vietnam. Can also be viewed at: https://youtu.be/ixFQG6K5GUg
