As opposed to what other kind of Maoists?
Because for decades the Mao-Stalinists were in a rotten anti-Soviet alliance with U.S. imperialism and NATO.

Support for Chinese promoted US/NATO favoring interests in the mid '70's (while Mao was alive) was the line/policy of the U.S. based faux-Maoist October League in the late '70's, but not the U.S based Maoist Revolutionary Union (to later be the RCP).
