Hello,
I've lurked here on and off for a few years but decided to go ahead and create an account out of boredom today. I've been a communist for about 15 years or so. I would hesitate to call myself anything as inflexible as a marxist or anarchist at this point in my experience, but I have taken each of those labels at different times in my past.
I currently work as a civil engineer and I would say that my political interest at this point mostly involves education, specifically surrounding the sciences. I have a great deal of respect for the arts as well as personal interest in them but I find the overwhelming neglect that the fields of science receive from the contemporary left to be alarming. I feel that it is a serious mistake to cede what is effectively total control of these fields to the right and whatever it is that masquerades as the political center at this point. Of course science will be necessarily anti-human in its orientation so long as it remains tied to our present mode of production, and the inclusion of well meaning revolutionists into those fields alone can do nothing to change that. Then again picking up a "Classical Mechanics for Dummies" book the day after we turn the world upside down doesn't sound like a great plan.
Uhh yes so there you have it
