I am Kilij, an ideologically-driven uni student looking forward to fellowship here and of course, someday, a better world.
I was originally a student of history with an emphasis on classical antiquity, but have re"oriented" myself to studying the East and also contemporary politics. I mostly study languages, both in class and in my free time, currently learning Japanese and Chinese in class and recently Russian in my freetime(was learning Polish, but changed over). Hopefully I'll get to learn Farsi soon too. Other than that, I like reading and listening to music.
I will also let it be known I am not irreligious and in fact intrigued by various faiths(mostly non-dogmatic spiritualities or heterodoxies though), however I am still an enemy of organized religion, dogma/religious law, and any use of faith as a control mechanism. Belief for me is mainly for hope, inspiration, reverence of the world/life, and even liberation. I also don't accept creationism or anything that contrasts scientific fact. Hopefully it is understandable that my belief in higher power is not in anyway contradictory to the left causes of a classless society, equality, and separation of religion from the state. I've had some interest from my study of history in some quite interesting groups like the Hashashin of Persia and the Taoist-influenced Yellow Turban Rebellion in China. Also, I've recently learned about the denounced Iranian reformer and Prophet Mazdak who basically was a socialist of Late Antiquity.
I still have plenty more to learn though, hope to discuss in detail left ideology and the transition to true communism and further support the cause!

Hello, I too am a big fan of history! although not more than an amateur about, I'm not planning to go on that route! Yes I've heard of Mazdak before since he was probably one of the first ''socialists'' around and laid the foundations for future revolutions. Oh, and also from playing CK2 as well. I've also written about the yellow turban rebellion on my blog, it was very interesting as well. Although it eventually fell to ''revision'' as the leaders eventually supported the Han regime.
I hope you stay here, I love history and I'd love to talk with a left-leaning person about it! :3
Sweet! I'm also a huge fan of CKII, I love strategy games in general from Chess to Total War, but CKII is the best IMO. Maybe we ought play a multiplayer session sometime!
Apparently, even though not too much is known for sure about Mazdakism, it's influence on later Iranian movements like the Khurramites and Shia Islam is certainly not negligible, I think a Mazdaki recon/revival would be interesting. Overall though, Iranian history is probably next on my list to learn about, likely when I begin learning Farsi.
The Yellow Turban Rebellion also had an interesting ideology behind their movement, kinda wish it was featured in the Three Kingdoms series.
But yeah, I wouldn't call myself on expert on any particular category of history, but am quite well-versed in a strange variety of different places and periods.
Thanks for the welcome, I am like to stay, after all I feel good about joining here and will probably meet several other like minded fellows here. I also still need to hammer down(lolunintendedpun) what kinda leftist I am, having only academically studied Mao so far and a bare-bones understanding of Marx and Lenin.
Looking forward to some interesting discussions!
Welcome to the forum! I like history as well and have tried learning languages also, but with a lot less success than you have.![]()
Hey, count me in, in both the game and the history stuff!
Excellent! The more, the merrier!
Interesting that I meet two CKII players right away, loving it here already!
Nice to meet you all and thanks for the welcome
