Hi everyone, I am from Patna ( a "small" town of 1.7m people), India. I began from xtreme support from Capitalism (I was young and stupid) to Anarchism (now, I'm 18) encompassing Democratic Socialism and Marxism. I have read a few books on these issues and I can say I am now firmly on the "left".
Personally, I love football and am a Man United fan (though I understand everything Orwell and Chomsky have had to say about sports. cant help it). I like music and love Pink Floyd and the Zeps. But my needs are not better fulfilled by anyone else than "The Clash". LOVE THEM.
So, thats pretty much me. And yeah, I am a Chomksy admirer. And who doesn't love Orwell.
Great to be here. Would love to know about and learn from you guys and gals. CHEERS!
Viva Socialismo !!

Welcome to the forum (even if you are a United fan.. :P).![]()
Ugh, Chomsky... That aside, what is your opinion about the Naxalites?
Post Scriptum: Also, what is your opinion on the growing national/separatist/regional movements that are growing in popularity?
Also, are these movements really sucking from the Naxalite support? It seems so to me, is your people losing hope in the Naxalites or what?
I'm more curious about his position on the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, especially with Bhagat Singh.

You must be a Liverpool fan then, I guess. Must have have really enjoyed the game over the weekend. Gutted when Lollana () scored. As for United, assessment is needed.
4 in a row, though.
On the Chomksy part, I think he has done his fair share. He inspired tons of people. Supported Norman Finkelstein (I dont know what you think of him, but I like him). He's very approachable. He even emailed me back on a query. Overall, nice guy. If Hugo Chavez endorses his book in the UN and Erdogan is fucking pissed, he must be doing something right.
Coming to Naxalites, glad that you asked. I live in Bihar. Two hours drive from Naxal stronghold areas. I visit my cousin regularly who lives in a neighboring city which is as the press describes, "Naxal hit" zone.
You must know one thing about India, the country is sick with "patriotic fervor" (tomorrow incidentally is the Republic Day). Everything and anything is judged according to the national interest. A fucking one sided media. If you actually visit the Naxal hit towns, you'd know that something terrible (on the part of power structures) is going on. We talk about the Naxals and Maoists as though they are bloodthirsty terrorists. I am of the opinion, that for them, there is no difference between an India under British Raj and the new 21st century India filled with beautiful megalomaniacal patriotism. So I am sympathetic, of course. I don't know whether you have, but you should read Arundhati Roy's five part series on Naxalites in Guardian - "Gandhian with Guns".
Also, something interesting. You know there is an important temple called "Deo" in the my cousin's city which lies inside the Naxalite Zone. During festive times, its the Naxals who actually make sure (discreetly, of course) that every thing goes well. And the district police is well aware of the fact, and is pretty okay (it should be) with it. So, you know, they ain't bloodthirsty terrorists, if you will.
Those seperatist movements have nothing to do with Naxal movements.
Khalistan - in Punjab - no naxal influence there.
Near Darjeeling - Naxals have nothing to with it.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangna - Naxal influence is there but nothing do with this.
North-East India (the only worthy movements out of these) - Nothing to do with Naxalites
In my opinion, the seperatist/regional movements are a completely different thing. The Naxalites demand is a struggle against the Indian Government of the tribal people for their basics of rights and dignity, completely different from the regional movementsb bar North-east struggle.
One very important thing about India, it is a country of upper-caste Hindus(I am part of that), and it is run by them and them only. These are the people who control the media and run the government. These are the people who don't want any change in the status-quo, these are the conservatives and Nationalists - biggest threat to any left-wing consolidation in India.
have a good day, thanks for the welcome.
You mean the "irrelevant" hero. Well that's how people go about. Nobody wants his legacy. The right wingers cant have him. The middle guys regard him too violent. And the left is confused that he may make them look too violent for the general public. And NOBODY likes an atheist hero here. That being said, he is way popular than Gandhi amongst the youth who ironically dont read and know nothing about him, but just want a radical revolutionary to be associated with.
Personally, I have immense admiration for the guy. he was an intellectual revolutionary just like Che. Our country chose another way and another leader to freedom but that doesn't undermine what Bhagat Singh did.
Yeah, it was some game and Firmino looks like he's improving.
We'll see about four in a row once Klopp starts bringing in new players. :P

“The possibility of securing for every member of society, by means of socialized production, an existence not only fully sufficient materially, and becoming day by day more full, but an existence guaranteeing to all the free development and exercise of their physical and mental faculties – this possibility is now for the first time here, but it is here.” Friedrich Engels

Good that you mention this as i've recently seen a bollywood movie about him called "The Legend of Bhagat Singh". It's a nice movie, if a little silly on certain parts (i'm not a fan of all those songs in the middle of a movie). Regardless of that, it inspired me to read a bit about him and his life is very impressive. It's amazing that he was such an unflinching atheist marxist in such backwards conditions. More people in our tradition should know about Bhagat Singh, definitely.
My question for you is did Ghandi really opportunistically sell him out? Could he have applied a bit more pressure on the British perhaps? Or was Bhagat simply deemed to dangerous to live?
Anyway, welcome to the forum![]()
