Default How would you rationalise spelling?

To me, you have to invent symbols for the sounds: oo, ee, igh, ay and oh

If I had my way. It wouldn't be English that people would speak. I'd prefer a reformed language known as Papiamento, which originates from the Aruba. Along with some changes to the things are spelled to make them even more easy. Since its heavily influenced by both English and Portuguese it would be quite simple to teach it to over 1 billion English, Portugese, and Spanish speakers around the world.

To be fair I think this universal language shit is kinda ridiculous.

Hey! There are too many lnguages and its confusing! Let's make one standard language!

Result: there are too many languages+1

I think we already have symbols for those sounds: oo for oo, ee for ee, igh for igh, etc.

This way the alphabet will get too complex. And the International Phonetical Alphabet (Or something) already has it.

The international phonetic alphabet has too many symbols and they look ugly.
The standard alphabet has too few.

No, I'd mean that organizations that already have a hard time translating will have one lingua franca to speak to people around the world without extra time and resources spent to learn many languages. And no, I doesn't mean +1 confusion; it means 1 language that can be used in international communication.

Your intent is the exact same as everyone else's, and the result is the same as well.

Also, there is confusion. How do you represent the oo sound in foot in standard english?

Well, you could as well as argue that as no international language succeeded, then no revolution could succeed, just because they still didn't succeed.

With the internet, everyone is in contact with everyone and a new "International Language Fever" could as well as happen tomorrow.

    That's basically English.

And yeah, English is difficult and confusing, but so, inevitably, is every other language. The languages of the world are so varied that it's pretty much impossible for a language which is easy for everyone to learn and understand to exist (or to be constructed). For instance, English spelling is a pain when your native language is phonetic, but then English speakers have issues with linguistic features like declensions, genders and tones which hardly exist in English.
