I Am Cait
Pisses me the fuck off. So, I'm chilling in muh lair and I see this I Am Cait marathon, and I'm like oh awesome. I'm like 47 minutes in. The campy use of Trans community terms is appalling. She treats her assistant like shit, really. The whole premise is basically like, "no one gave a shit before Cait cuz she's a huge celebrity, therefore fuck all other existing Trans advocates she's the figurehead so hooray." Then when it comes to houseless transgender and gender non-conforming youth she was like totally conservative and was more or less snubbing her nose as people receiving aid; she thought that a job was enough. The usual "but if you give people aid they'll be lazy an parasitical." All of this pissing off the other women in the show. That's pretty much the whole tenor of the show is some bourgy broad absorbing everything from activists. Idk, it's awesome a show like this is out there but Jesus Christ dude

Haven't watched it so I can't make an honest judgement, but based on some reviews I know it's basically The Kardashians with some semblance of relevancy to current events. Either way, it's reflective of the innate frictions within the LGBT movement and inter-class movements in general. After the main goal (same-sex marriage, official acceptance, end to public discrimination, etc.) is achieved, the movement splinters to reflect the intersectionality of multiple identity dimensions: white feminists vs minority feminists, rich POC over poor POC, the list goes on and on. The consequences of "respectable" politics are shown again and again, only to be forgotten as advocates for oppressed groups try to shmooze their way to acceptance instead of cooperating with one another to promote a radical and universal (or near-universal) programme.
