Yep, you guessed it. Ol' Karl himself.

And the fact that Charles Darwin is ALSO an ally of yours is just a one-two gut punch to the reactionaries.

As you would expect, there is MUCH butthurt to be hand on the 'net about Marx's involvement. Internet reactionaries are also such jolly good fun, aren't they?

I had an inkling this might happen since I saw the trailer for it on the telly. It's very conflicting; part of me is happy that in these times Marx is getting what would appear to be a positive shoutout to an audience that could sorely need it. Another part of me is concerned that this is going to be a prelude to a hatchet job. Again we have the fun of any political content being diluted to the point of meaninglessness, but we shall see. If it is not a shit game, I will be quite surprised. That said, going around slaying reactionaries at the behest of Herr Beardy is satisfying on some internal level. Will probably borrow it when it comes out and see how it goes, but my hopes aren't high.

Um judging how Robespierre was portrayed by Assassins Creed I don't expect Marx to be portrayed any less ridiculously.

They might as well make him a villain. What would be preferable is to leave him out of the game all together.

So Marx will be blasphemized into being some kind of naive philanthropist. Do people really think that Marx's historical significance amounts to "Hey guyz, what about da workers?"

Nevermind that though. The depiction of Robespierre and the terror alone warrants such a series' ridicule.

And all of those ragged masses with yellow armbands. Because the character of the great social upheavals of industrial Britain conform to the sensitivities of liberals in 2015.

Ubisoft? Lower class?! The last thing I'd expect from Ubisoft of all organizations is to put a guy like Karl Marx in good light! Worst of all, their capitalist interpretation of him is what the modern impressionable consumer will think about him in the future. ''A old guy who was in a video game I played once.'' BAH!

All media is apart of decadent bourgeois culture; nothing can exist legitimately outside this mode of production; Oui? So of course but why discourage or give disapproval to seemingly positive depictions of Marx or others like Darwin or Dawkins? Conceivably given the 'AC Universe' they could've made him apart of the Templars, the group concerned with Order and so on but they didn't. It's a give and take just like with Che shirts. Long shot but there's loads of people who probably wouldn't get into reading Marx or others if not for stuff like this?

Do you know how stupid your average Assassin's creed player is?

If I become rich I swear I will spend like 5-10 million making a video game so ridiculous it will be a success. Karl Marx and Engels will become werewolf hunters.

Not sure what the video is supposed to prove but going back to what you were saying, I mean I thinks it's a matter of a) who you play with b) recognizing that playing online is like playing with people from 4chan or FB, they're will be idiots everywhere. I've had some pretty deep conversations with some of the people I play with. Take yesterday, me and my friend in a closed sesh had a really near convo about US covert ops while playing CoD Black Ops II. Go on public death match and I get harassed. I would also argue AC, isn't like the GTA community.

Maybe AssCreed!Marx will be able to explain scientifically the reproduction of this awfully derivative series with an unfocused plot.

Also remember when everyone got all excited/outraged over Vox Populi in Bioshock Infinite and then the game turned out to be standard liberal pap with a bland "both extremes are baaad" message? Like literally every game I can think of which touches anything resembling real-world politics? (Even otherwise great games like Thief I and II.) Now guess what's going to happen with this game?

What in the actual fuck!? That is dismal. So basically Marx says that bourgeois democracy is the road to socialism, and then asks some pair of tossers in hoods to stop an anarchist blowing up parliament. Stellar.

How would that be any different than Marx irl? Or did I miss the part where Marx and Bakunin were actually the best of pals? I mean the Bolsheviks shat on the Anarchists, so did the Marxists of Spain, so did the Marxists in Greece; that's like textbook haha wot?

If you don't mind spoilers, read this. http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Frank_Morris

For a proper debunking it will need playing at some point as is only fair, but that doesn't really give an encouraging tone.

Fun fact: In the AC universe Lenin had an assassin brother who he was all chummy with, but then Stalin ended up working for THE TEMPLARS

I don't know which games are "universally loved" and which are not, but I do like some of the AAA releases. I liked Dishonored, for example. But Bioshock Infinite was hyped up the arsehole, its political position was a bland liberal centrism (racism is baaaad but anyone using violence to oppose racism is also baaaad), and the complexity you're talking about is the plot shitting itself and dying when alternate timelines get introduced. Ken Levine is a nice guy, but his games are getting more shallow with each iteration, and the cerulean-tinted bastard child of Ultima Underworld that was System Shock 1 is still probably the best (blasphemy, I know, but System Shock 2 had its share of problems). The plot in his games has never been great, either.

And yes, Assassin's Creed is derivative. Nothing wrong with that per se (Dishonored's gameplay was also derivative), but the copying was done badly and much of the game consists of waiting around doing pointless nonsense. The plot is unfocused, too.
