    Default Zizek vs consumerists

Hey I'm new to the forum. Does anyone know of a good debate that pits conscious consumerism against Zizek's perspective in an even debate?

I guess to elaborate and encourage a response there's an RSA animate clip of his that spurred the question (You can search for it as "first as tragedy, then as farce").

I like his critique of the consumerist rationale created by some corporations, but would like to just hear this line of debate debated by a capitalist who is opposed but sympathetic to Zizek's critique.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

There cannot be a debate between conscious consumerism and Zizek's perspective. This is entirely contradictory. There can be debate about Zizek's works regarding consumerism, the implications of consumerism today. If one were to even, as a conscious consumer, take into account Zizek's position, they would already be presuming it.

I suppose. I didn't mean to imply that the arguments would be equivalent. I imagine the compassionate consumer capitalist counter argument would mention something like how it's a good thing that Walmart buys so much organic produce, because its unlikely that Global Capitalist supremacy is going anywhere anytime soon, so the least it could have is a smiling face. Something akin to the Chomsky Buckley debate.

I just think it would be interesting to watch the two perspectives hash things out.

Thanks for your response, and if anyone else knows of anything close to what I'm looking for, please chime in.
