    Default Project MyVote

    Hello everybody,

I open a thread to talk about the project Myvote.

    It's an application for smartphone.
The goal of MyVote is to promote direct democracy in an international level by simulated referendums.

The questions are simultaneously translated in several languages and the results are then summed up.
The good point is that you a "world opinion" about a subject.

Any user can propose new referendum. As soon as it's translated, the referendum is submitted to the community.
The application is free, ad-free and apolitical.

What do you think about it?

Here a link of the application

If it's kept apolitical than it's basically just a worthless way to gauge public opinion about mostly irrelevant things. We need this kind of system to start happening in the political realm. It wouldn't be a perfect system, but it would be a hell of a lot better than we've got now (as long as a means of voting was provided to everybody).
Dragging Marxists into the modern age, kicking and screaming, one pointless argument at a time.

Also, if you beleive in the international revolution. Necessary they must have some kind of international cooperation without pass by the capitalist organization.
This project can be a good point to make understant to people the interest of global communication and make them accept the ideas.

Because it doesn't mean anything. What could you do with these results? How could you mobilise people? What impact on political life can it make?

By the way, I've corrected the topic title.

Mass direct democracy, even if its just pretend, with a tool like this is an interesting concept. Unfortunately I think as soon as it enters into the world as a real thing you immediately see all the downsides. Who really controls this on the back end? How would you manage accountability, both of the participants and the operators? How to encourage adoption of another social networking tool with so many competitors, etc.

I think the conditions we live in must change before the proper tool can really come into existence.

What is the impact of a petition or a protestation? In most of the case it changes nothing, but it show an implication, a mobilization.
Some other people can join the movement.
If a hundreds of thousands of people all around the world express their opinion in a subject. It's not nothing.

Opinion certainly isn't 'nothing' in the sense that it's meaningless. Insofar as political action goes though, opinion on it's own is fairly passive. If the people holding an opinion never move beyond expressing it via an app, or even a real ballot box for that matter, it really can amount to nothing in the end.

It's not wrong to express opinion or create space for others to do so, but a radical project should hopefully hold the promise of moving past just saying something out loud. If the tool really is intent on remaining apolitical its hard to see how it could ever reach that point.

The small group of people who developed the application will continue to manage it.

For the moment there are no benefit. Everything is free and no add. There are not really accountability for the moment.

It's not really a social network. For the moment everybody is anonymous. Some people ask to add the possibility to make public vote but it's not possible for the moment.

I doubt this is very accurate. Just because a lot of people vote, doesn't mean its representative of the world. IE, The people in rich western nations are much more likely to have access and thus vote on this than people in poor countries, not mention the different groups within all the countries, which will ultimately give a skewed and inaccurate result.

And that's the point I was trying to make: What movement? Thousands of people tapping frantically on their mobile device about their opinions on various subjects is not the same thing as thousands of people marching on the streets.

You can't always go on the street to protest. The application can potentially touch more people.
And how do you organize a march with people from different place?
The application have an international aspect who is very important.

I have installed the app and saw no way for users to communicate with each other. So how could they ever organise collectively? Communication is a rather basic requirement for that. Without it, every user, millions as it may be, remains in isolation.

A tchat will maybe be implement that user can have some small debates but it's not main in the application. It's more people can said their opinion by voting on subject their governement wont let.
And organize vote on an international basis.

I think there would be more people to care once this is finished. I'm looking at the app now and I don't see anything. It looks useless as it is, which I understand as it's developing but once it's functionality is there I would say we can talk.

Which improvements should you make interest to the applications?

Are we supposed to be able to ask questions? That would be nice to do.
I do want to clarify, after playing around with the app I figured out how to use it. The problem was I was not signed in to wifi so I was getting errors.
The best things I would say to improve is:
    -the gui look and feel.
    -change themes to categories
    -add a help section.

If you want help with this I could lend a hand.

I think this is a generally positive thing, although I would agree that the potential of online-only activism has been overhyped.

I think this is a case where you can see the future society being born in the present one. Where you see people thinking about how society can be organised, and inventing new ways of carrying them out. They may not work yet; they are still mired in the old order; but merely by being thought of and discussed, they ask the question, why CAN'T things be this way?

You can propose some new question by the contact poll. After i check and translate in other language the question is validate and appear. I did it because i was worry about having problem if some poll don't respect the law. If somebody know the law about it i should be glad to have your opinion.

A lot of improvement must be done. Are you a programmer? Which language do you use?
    Your help is welcome
