    Default Wikipedia

Is anyone else here a Wikipedia editor? I've made a few dozen - mainly short - articles over the last few months, mainly about obscure political and historical stuff. I don't dig the whole culture of Wikipedia, especially not the manual of style, but it's working out so far. I kinda use it to relieve stress - mindlessly writing about something that went down during the Cold War is good for that.

    But seriously...

I've never been involved with it myself, however, a friend who used to post here semi-obsessively moderated a few different articles, especially the anarchism one. They said it was a horrible task, as it was like a... constant battle to keep in line with his own ideas of anarchism, as some, such as so-called anarcho-capitalists would try to modify the article to their own ends. Hell, sometimes, if you are lucky, you can see some funny/weird shit that comes up on some articles, however briefly, before they are re-edited.

Imagine moderating articles related to Israel/Palestine for example...

How has it been for you? I'd imagine it's been okay, since you seem to still be doing it. Don't be disheartened by what I have said, but yeah, certainly be wary eh.

What you dislike most is the Manual of Style? It's simply a guide to produce well done articles. What is disgusting is how editors act and so on.
I'm a Wikipedia editor, too. Let's take control of Wikipedia and sanitize it of all bullshit.

As a non-native English speaker, I've had a hard time adjusting to for example the proper way to format dates and so on. Minor details.

Re: Palmares, it's gone surprisingly good. I've managed to prevent a lot of nationalistic, sneaky edits of Swedish far-right topics. Mainly I stay out of larger articles though, and just make my own.

I like to do a lot of the minor editing like finding dates for births/deaths or movable festivals, or finding the full names of people. I have an Ancestry subscription which does help, and I know of many free family history websites which are very useful as well.

I guess there's no harm in outing myself here, really.

Here's a random selection of articles I've made. Excuse all frequent spelling issues/grammar problems.

I like Wikipedia; it's very useful for having an introduction to certain topics and then finding more in-depth resources in the bibliography. I don't have a lot of complaints about its policies.

Wikipedia is a legitimate source of information if you just want a very base knowledge of a given subject. If you want a well rounded understanding of something, though, it's best to supplement a wikipedia reading with other sources.

I've made a few edits on the site, which tend to have stayed (probably because of how obscure the topics are)

I trully support wikipedia, even if on some political subject, we must try to check the information twice.

Once upon a time when my mates and I were really high we ate a Pomelo, it was delicious, or "lush" as one of us put it. Problem was we didn't know it was called a Pomelo so we just called it a "lusho fruit", later on when we found out what it was we edited the wikipedia page and added "lusho fruit" to the list common names. That was over five years ago, Wikipedia still thinks that "lusho fruit" is a common name for a Pomelo and furthermore, the name has started popping up in places other than wikipedia. This is my contribution to humanity, my legacy.

Seeing as this is seen as acceptable by an admin, from here on out when I have a disagreement with someone I will be asking them to reference this. If you want an explanation of my views, too bad.
