Apparently what is happening is that plants and oceans are absorbing only about half of the eight billion tons of carbon we produce, and the rest is being absorbed through other means. If plants and oceans only absorbed the amount of carbon they're expected to, we'll all be in extreme peril, they say.
If you have a chance to see the actual article on this month's issue of National Geographic, check out some of the graphs showing the massively abnormal high amounts of carbon in the atmospehere since the begining of industrialization.
