The criticism of religion ends with the teaching that man is the highest essence for man – hence, with the categoric imperative to overthrow all relations in which man is a debased, enslaved, abandoned, despicable essence, relations which cannot be better described than by the cry of a Frenchman when it was planned to introduce a tax on dogs: Poor dogs! They want to treat you as human beings!

tbh I'm skeptical of any person who worshipped a political figure that much. She says she's changed, but what happened, did her fanaticism just wane when she found out obama wasn't all he was made out to be? I bet if some other president came along offering the same crap she would fall for it again

I think that's a bit dismissive of the ability for people to change based on the events happening around them, both in a broader scope and to individuals personally. Material conditions dictate conciousness and all that. I once remember thinking that voting for the Liberal Democrats would get rid of student fees but then feeling betrayed by their abandonment of the student movement. This is what sparked my reading of Marxist texts and, upon facing a reality of future underemployment in a shitty retail job, solidified my current understanding of the need for revolutionary socialism.

There's a lot of disaffected people out there, particularly young people faced with huge student debts and no future prospects, that could be won over to our ideas. I don't think this woman is quite there yet but she's far more likely to actually sit down and legitimately think about the ideas of socialism now with her broader understanding of the betrayals of the capitalist political parties than she was a few years ago when she supported Obama initially.

(Maybe? Dunno, I might be applying my personal experiences from several years ago to a situation that isn't quite relevant.)

Liberals always fold under pressure and idealists never last, pretty much two things you can always count on.

Yeah, that's a good point. At least she has encountered our ideas. I'm probably nitpicking a bit.

I just get the impression that it's pretty unnatural to get THAT enthusiastic over any political figure in the states. Like, she must have been fed some pretty profound misinformation.

It is too bad she probably is a right-wing libertarian now. However, she is pro-choice.

Lol. Why bother responding to the thread then, if it's so worthless? Kinda hypocritical.

Yeah, we're going to not objectify women in our discussions here. If you have comments to make about someone that's fine but refrain from the objectifying 'boy's club' attitudes about who's "hot" or not.
