    Default Direct Quotations

    I'm looking for some direct quotations regarding a few things for an essay I'm writing. I wanna see where exactly people like Marx, Engels, Bakunin, and Kropotkin say we need to take control of the means of production/capital (I don't wanna limit it to these people but I just want some examples of this sentiment being echoed).
    Also I'm looking to see where they say that the proletariat is oppressed because it does not control capital.
    I will list the quotes as I get them, and I may ask for more. Thank you for your time.

    Marx has co-written this
    "Considering,

    That the emancipation of the productive class is that of all human beings without distinction of sex or race;

    That the producers can be free only when they are in possession of the means of production [NB];

    That there are only two forms under which the means of production can belong to them

    The individual form which has never existed in a general state and which is increasingly eliminated by industrial progress;
    The collective form the material and intellectual elements of which are constituted by the very development of capitalist society;
    Considering,

    That this collective appropriation can arise only from the revolutionary action of the productive class – or proletariat - organized in a distinct political party;

    That a such an organization must be pursued by all the means the proletariat has at its disposal including universal suffrage which will thus be transformed from the instrument of deception that it has been until now into an instrument of emancipation;"

    Is this resistance or a costume party?
    Either way I think black with bandanas is a boring theme.

    Quotes from Kropotkin's Conquest of Bread:

    Chapter 1, Our Riches

    "We, in civilized societies, are rich. Why then are the many poor? Why this painful drudgery for the masses? Why, even to the best paid workman, this uncertainty for the morrow, in the midst of all the wealth inherited from the past, and in spite of the powerful means of production, which could ensure comfort to all in return for a few hours of daily toil?
    The Socialists have said it and repeated it unwearyingly. Daily they reiterate it, demonstrating it by arguments taken from all the sciences. It is because all that is necessary for production-- the land, the mines, the highways, machinery, food, shelter, education, knowledge--all have been seized by the few in the course of that long story of robbery, enforced migration and wars, of ignorance and oppression, which has been the life of the human race before it had learned to subdue the forces of Nature. It is because, taking advantage of alleged rights acquired in the past, these few appropriate to-day two-thirds of the products of human labour, and then squander them in the most stupid and shameful way. It is because, having reduced the masses to a point at which they have not the means of subsistence for a month, or even for a week in advance, the few only allow the many to work on condition of themselves receiving the lion's share. It is because these few prevent the remainder of men from producing the things they need, and force them to produce, not the necessaries of life for all, but whatever offers the greatest profits to the monopolists."

    ch4 Expropriation

    "What we do want is so to arrange things that every human being born into the world shall be ensured the opportunity in the first instance of learning some useful occupation, and of becoming skilled in it; next, that he shall be free to work at his trade without asking leave of master or owner, and without handing over to landlord or capitalist the lion's share of what he produces."

    "This is the secret of wealth; find the starving and destitute, pay them half a crown, and make them produce five shillings worth in the day, amass a fortune by these means, and then increase it by some lucky hit, made with the help of the State. "

    "At bottom it is nothing more nor less than grinding the face of the poor."

    "We do not want to rob any one of his coat, but we wish to give to the workers all those things the lack of which makes them fall an easy prey to the exploiter, and we will do our utmost that none shall lack aught, that not a single man shall be forced to sell the strength of his right arm to obtain a bare subsistence for himself and his babes. This is what we mean when we talk of Expropriation; this will be our duty during the Revolution"

    I'll post up some more for you later. Prob Rudolf Rocker and Bakunin.

    Are there any quotes regarding the idea that oppression must be systematic?
