    Default Travelling in Europe

Hi Revlefters, I know soliciting of personal information or contact is not advocated here (for good reason) so please keep in mind I am aware of this and any potential pitfalls.

Me and 2 friends are planning on travelling through Europe late June(ish) or at the start of the summer. Because money is tight, I'm wondering about the etiquette of requesting a place to crash from fellow comrades and leftists?

We would be in a city for at most 4 days, and any way of reducing overheads would be important. I want to make a travel diary, with a significant political component, and I think it would make it much better if I could describe political sentiment first hand from meeting people.

If anyone can put me in contact with people to help make this realised, I would be grateful.

I know my political posts on this site are sometimes sparse, so for the purpose of making things easier to understand, my feelings are thus:

Whichever dominant movement to socialism is strongest is the banner (barring marxism leninism) I would attach myself to. Hence the pragmatic name! I think I roughly identify closest to anarchism or at least left communism but i'm aware that in general the left is weak so where I can support something that is worthwhile the most (i prefer direct action and such to electoral participation and "movement building").

Of my friends, one identifies with socialism but from a more old labour perspective, but he is aware of the flaws with bourgeois democracy.

The other is apolitical but is aware of how the working class do not get a fair deal.

We would be well behaved as is polite and happy to assist upkeep for chores to earn our brief keep. If this post is not cool, then I apologise but i've heard of couch surfing amongst online communities so I figure it was worth a shot, any advice is appreciated, thanks!

    Default Travelling in Europe

When I lived in San Francisco this group of Danish students sent an email to the food to bombs list serv asking about finding collectives to stay at, they bounced around for like 2 weeks, amd helped with food not bombs and other projects. So email in advance and help, out while you are there.

try couchsurfing.com, last i checked (years ago) you can narrow search parameters by groups, and there are definitely 'anarchist' 'leftist' whatever groups so you can find people who seem 'down' or whatever.

otherwise idk, i wouldn't even try most of the contacts i have in europe myself at this point the situation for most of them isn't the kind where they need tourists coming

I was actually going to ask something similar to this. How does travel between Romania and the rest of the Schengen area work? Has it been integrated?

I don't know why I didn't mention couch surfing, or Craigslist. Friends have used them in the past, in Europe.

I do not believe so, but I also don't think you're likely to get into too much difficulty at the crossings (not sure if bribing still works well, but it probably does.)

Not sure which means of travel is the best either, it's pretty expensive to go buy official bus service and the railways.

Heh, last time I met some Americans travelling in Europe, they were quite adamant that Plzeň was in Germany...

Anyway, try hostels, pretty cheap, found one in Budapest for only 5 euros a night.

There's one in Prague I stayed in that's around that price, although I can't remember what the name of it was...it's pretty close to Batalion Bar, though, (which is a pretty cool bar), that's all I remember.

Prague was actually one of my favorite cities that I visited in Europe. The beer, the food, the weed...everything is great there. I think the city itself and a lot of the surrounding sites are really interesting as well. Although I got the distinct feeling that a lot of people who live there, or at least a lot of the ones who serve tourists, kind of hate foreigners, LOL. I guess I'd probably be the same way if I had to deal with tourists all the time.
