Default North Dakota close to banning abortion at 6 weeks

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota on Friday moved closer to adopting what would be the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, with lawmakers sending the Republican governor measures that could set the state up for a costly legal battle over the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized the procedure.

The North Dakota Senate overwhelmingly approved two anti-abortion bills Friday, one banning abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy and another prohibiting women from having the procedure because a fetus has a genetic defect, such as Down syndrome. North Dakota would be the first state in the U.S. to adopt such laws.

Presumably they know that such measures will eventually get ruled unconstitutional, so why are lawmakers doing it? Is it just political posturing? But needless to say, absolutely repulsive.

They want to get another case before the Supreme Court in hopes that the current line-up will overturn Roe v Wade.

And what is their reasoning for doing this? Because it's "murder"? Well shit, if they're trying to take a moral high ground they better start supporting all those born children who can't even have a decent life due to the poverty of their parents-the same children these very same people are saying shouldn't be aborted.

Long story short, the pro-life stance is extremely hypocritical and will continue to be so until they start providing services for these poor families, stop executing criminals, and stop droning children in Pakistan.

It's the right wing's attempt at control as always. They like to preach how the federal government is trying to take away their rights, yet want to instill their moral 'pure' views onto women. If they care so much about saving lives let's see those fuckers help out the poor and homeless? Oh wait that's 'socialism' to them.. The hypocrisy of the right is beyond lunacy.

Sometimes i feel like most republicans don't actually want to make abortion illegal despite all their rhetoric against it. Abortion is such an emotional issue for so many people. It's too useful for them. All they need to do is put out some emotionally charged rhetoric about banning abortion, and they instantly have a whole slew of voters who are going to ignore anything else they might say on other issues. Why would they want to get rid of something that makes their lives so much easier?

I'm not saying we should completely ignore the possibility that roe vs wade could be overturned, because there are certainly still lots of politicians and institutions that are serious about it. but it's something to think about.
