Last night a demonstration for the squat Binz in Zürich Switzerland turned into a confrontation with the riot-police.
Freespace Binz, that has been squatted since 2006, will be evicted (according to the authorities in May 2013) to make way for a construction project of a dubious real estate magnate of the right-wing populist SVP party. Tonight went, estimated from participants on site, 1,500 people under the slogan 'Too Binz too fail' out in the streets. Not far from the 'Binz' train station Wiedikon the police closed the route and attacked the demonstration with tear gas and water canons. Some of the demonstrators responded in kind. Containers were set on fire, stones thrown and barricades raised. According to the official media windows of a bank where smashed and a supermarket was partially looted
According to participants it was a boisterous and energetic demonstration with an extremely joyful and peaceful character. That changed suddenly when the police attacked the demonstration violently with rubber scrap shot, lots of teargass and a water canon.
