The idea that at any given time some mega-corporation might be recording me through someone's eyepiece, even if only for advertising purposes (with Google, privacy SHALL NOT PASS!), is far more than frustrating. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some kind of "humanist" groups start forming in the next decade like you see in sci-fi movies, the people in these works resisting technology because of whatever evil it has to do with. This is literally a perfect opportunity for big brother to watch you.

The problem is this - society tends to look at this kind of technological progress as morally neutral, when in reality, nothing is. Some things are wrong, or even dangerous, and with technology that will allow people with a vested interest to see through the eyes of the countless people who will own these - it will happen.

These aren't "hip" or "revolutionary". They're sickening.

I'm a little bit confused by the outcry. Corporations and capitalist governments have already made an art out of surveillance. This is just one more tool in their arsenal, not a game-changer. They can already record you through a multitude of ways.

Certainly looks useless and rubbish, but I can't say there's anything new about this.
The revolutionary despises public opinion. He despises and hates the existing social morality in all its manifestations. For him, morality is everything which contributes to the triumph of the revolution. Immoral and criminal is everything that stands in its way.

Nothing new? Seriously? Google Glass is set to make your phone obsolete. If that isn't new, then what is?

I've said it before say it again: This is a logical and much expected technological step. Humans are extremely optical focused, so to use technology as complex as we now have in our pockets, a shift to the eyes is only a matter of time.

Within a few years, glasses will be replaced by lenses as miniaturisation continues. The step after is implants in your eyes and even further down the line we can expect direct implant in our optical cortex.

This does indeed raise all kinds of ethical issues and some type of resistance on the fault lines is also pretty likely. It all depends on concrete developments of course.

Because it is essentially a transformation of the same concept of the shitty mobile phones.

Mine is ancient, and I don't plan on getting any smart-phone.

This is a workable H.U.D. and if it comes out correctly it will probably revolutionize human relations. It's kind of a big deal. This is a game-changer not only for surveillance but for organizing as well. Smart phones already do a great job of documenting police brutality and this will do an even better job and will be less likely you get you shot. I can also imagine advances in education, healthcare (particularly mental health), entertainment, and all sorts of applications. You can't just write this sort of thing off. Of course they will be available to the wealthy first, and they will have more advanced models, and may have certain advantages in that regard. Like Q said, it does raise ethical concerns.
