2 militants of the MST murdered in 10 days in Rio de Janeiro
"Rio - Fifteen people, seven from camp CAbahyba and the others from the Zumbi dos Palmares Settling, both in Campos, north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, had to quickly leave the place because of the risk of losing their lives.
The murder of two militants of the MST in 10 days transformed the rural area of the city into a "gunpowder barrel". The ministry of agrarian development asked for an effort coming from the state government in the murder investigations.
The first investigated murder was that of the movement leader Cícero Guedes, killed on January 26th, after being shot 10 times. 10 days later, Regina dos Santos Pinho was also killed in her home. Both victims were from the Zumbi dos Palmares settling."

This is something very common in the northern parts of Brazil, but it mostly involves killing common peasants to scare off others, not the movement leaders. It also rarely makes the mainstream news like this, and according to the CPT, the Land Pastoral Commission, an organ from the church that specializes in land conflicts, only 8% of these cases are judged. Not condemned, but judged:

The way that Regina's body was found also indicated sexual violence, and the murderer is still unknown.

What exactly is the MST?
Landless Workers' Movement.
They fight principally for agrarian reform.
As for the news, it's fucking disgusting to say that these murders are not uncommon practice.
