    Default Berlusconi praises Mussolini

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21222341

Mussolini had been wrong to pass anti-Jewish laws but had otherwise been a good leader, said Mr Berlusconi.

He was speaking at a Milan ceremony commemorating victims of the Nazi Holocaust.

Well it's nice to know that the centre-left parties are winning and most people are just laughing at him for saying stupid shit like that.

With the way things are going in Europe I was expecting his comment to be met with an invitation to the Human Rights Council.

What a fucking moron. It'd be one thing if his party were leading in the polls; as it is, they seem to be trailing behind.

Best bit is he wasn't even invited, he just showed up, made the outrageous comments and the fell asleep for the rest of the ceremony... Maybe the fact he is losing in the polls from a comedian got to his hwad?

But this is precisely the point, isn't it? That Lega Nord (or whatever it is spelled) siphons off a good part of the ultra-conservative, practically fascist vote.

This is not an uncommon thing in Italy. You often see Mussolini picture calenders and post cards, especially in emilia-romagna. There is a lot of internal tension in Italy which can be generalized into the people from the North thinking that the Southern people are ruining the country and vice versa. So the idea that mussolini united the country and made it strong even if it is false is prevalent in a lot of places. Italians will often try to separate the politician from politics as well so for example they can approve of Berlusconi the man, but disapprove of Berlusconi the politican and vice versa as well.
