Humans are inherently violent creatures because we are a part of nature which is the most violent part of the universe.
Violent conflict will always be with us; we have found ways in which to repress and redirect violence; societal pressure supresses the violence, and we release it through violent computer games, competitive sports, etc.

    But this is not enough.
We still have wars and armed conflict despite the release valves provided by modern technology.
virtual violence is NOT ENOUGH for humanity. there is still a need for real-world conflict.
So that must be redirected, but how?
    Here is my proposal:

We create an intelligent, genetically engineered non-human species for the specific purpose of engaging in hostilities.
They will come in bug-like forms; claws, teeth, spines, acid sacs etc.
They will have a driving hate for human life; they can only be truly satisfied when killing humans.
They will be strong, fast, smart, and maybe even have 'psychic powers'
They can be beaten with effort but never exterminated
They will have bodyparts that are easily preserved, thus making it easy to create 'hunting trophies' out of.

Though they sound superior to humans at the moment, we have a an uncanny knack for levelling the playing field.

I was thinking of calling them deimorphs, or 'shapes of terror'.
We will be too busy fighting these smart beasts to fight ourselves; an abomination we can all stand against, as one.

    Yay or nay?

Well isnt it just re-directing war to something else? People will still die etc.

War itself at the moment only continues because there is money at stake. The Arms industry, economic markets just check out Iraq so though your idea is a little, in fact very out there it has no practical gain.

Sorry I just think thats a mad post, nay is my answer.

Why create artifical life just to kill it off? Why not just take it out on roaches or something?
The prolonged barrage engulfed Zero-One in the glow of a thousand suns. But unlike their former masters with their delicate flesh, the machines had little to fear of the bombs' radiation and heat. Thus did Zero-One's troops advance outwards in every direction. And one after another, mankind surrendered its territories. So the leaders of men conceived of their most desperate strategy yet. A final solution: the destruction of the sky.

    I like their names: deimorphs.

But honestly, I doubt anyone would want to spend the time to create such a vicious beast. I like the idea, but I don't think that it would ever happen.

Wrong. Society has made us violent. If our environment was changed greed, violence etc etc could be eradicated.

True people are naturally violent,we need violence for unknown reason,it's like a tradition we've been doing it since the dawn of man.Our nature is Chaos and we can't escape that,no matter how much we try,no matter how much we try to redirect ourselves from killing one another,it'll still happen.

Society hasn't made us violent, we were violent before society...

Society has actually made us less violent.

I'm surprised somebody would state that.

What we really need is a miniature intelligent rhino that runs into the sides of buildings in swarms, due to a fast genetically engineered breeding cycle. Each deinoceros attack would be damaging, but for the most part nonlethal. Unless you get caught in an attack out of your car...

We could be able to cross-breed them with armadillo, so they would be armored and dig, producing that unextinctionable aspect. These armadeinomorphs would be ideal for killing and defending against. But make them smart. OKAY, these chimparmadeinomorphs would have brains as advanced as the chimp. The early prototypes would be trained to hate us and comprehend our cities and societies. Now we need to make them breed faster. Chimparmadeinomousamorphs would create a nice prblem for humans to get pissed off at and focus resources on. The government could make a conspiracy theory that they are from outerspace. Many people would want to kill them if they were alens and not "one of god's creatures".

Or we could have something simple and already existent in these virtual fighting games that cannot satisfy us. It's called a Bullsquid. It spits a type of acid, can swim, uses its mouth and tail as a weapon (and leg spurs if it gets flipped over). Bullsquids prefer fresh flesh. Oh, unfortunately they're very territorial. If we could mix them with ants and put them in a hive environment, preferably underwater, it would make them tough to wipe out.

Or we could just make ants larger and more violent.

i don't think your idea is new.

Taiwan is not powerful compared to china, but the chinese goverment got everyone very very scared and mad at that island in an attempt to create unity of the chinese people.

in the book "the private life of chairman mao" by his doctor, mao is asked why does he not attack taiwan fully? he replied because as long there is an enemy of the chinese so close by then the people will work harder and join together.

I think this is the reason countries seem to be stronger during war times or when there is a threat.

Only the US would do make an artificial enemy, because war means profit.

    War means a goal.

I'm thinking of resources, not economy. Think during WWII weren't all usable resources saved for the war effort? They worked for a motivated goal. That's all that was said.

Sounds like 1984's war. You only know about it through the news, and the news is always being changed. How can they be sure the war is happening at all?

I think, if this idea of an artificial enemy would work, it would be far more useful to use the media than genetic engineering. If the gov't controlled all news stations, all it would have to do is stage images of a war, create an enemy, and broadcast it, and we would be none the wiser. I think it's actually a pretty good idea (if you wanted to start a dystopia). Staging a war would be cheaper than actually waging one, and it would have all the benefits of war without actual loss of life. War stirs patriotism (for the most part, but I guess not with this crowd). War distracts political dissent (see above ). War provides an excuse for a gov't to have covert operations.

Man... so cool... There needs to be a comic book about dystopia. I would buy every issue. Twice.
