Question What are some groups other than the IMF and World Bank

For example, there is the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America. Any others out there?

The Bilderberg group comes to mind. Conspiratorial in the true sense of the word. Not so much the 9/11 nutters idea of "conspiratorial" to be sure though. Give em a look and make up your own mind though.

Are you asking how the capitalist class organises itself?

What about the UN, NATO, the EU, Organization of American States, NAFTA, etc etc. The list goes on for some time.

The Bank of International Settlements(BIS) is another financial organization with a very shady past. This is how Wall Street continued to do business with Germany after US involvement in WWII. There are a lot of books on this subject.

Any thoughts on the African Union???
Yup. It is a neoliberal sham. The original aspirations for pan-Africanism died with the first wave of post-independence leaders. The African Union is essentially the club for the African elite - the gatekeepers - where they come up with plans for the distribution of African resources in exchange for foreign capital.

In Africa, NEPAD is much more important as it is an explicitly neoliberal framework for an African economy and really has more functionality on the continent. The ruling class of Africa is not as organized as the rest of the world, largely because of their dependence on foreign capital. The organizations for the regional hegemons are also interesting - SADC, the organisation that facilitates South African economic dominance, and ECOWAS, a collection of Western darlings.

No, any organizations that are for internationalism and the benefits of all of its people. That's is why I gave the example of ALBA.

There is a great journal written by academic leftists on the African political economy that covers a great deal of African topics, including their supranational organisations: http://www.roape.org/published.html

Just scroll through the different volumes until you find what you're looking for. I'd recommend this site to anyone who is interested in getting a more nuanced perspective on African politics and the continents role in the global system.

Is it just me, or is this thread a failed attempt to bait ALBA supporters by comparing them with our good friends in the IMF?

It's all a conspiracy, you see. Anything that anyone does has an ulterior motive, even Freud said that. Your behaviors are a manifestation of the fight between your desires and morality judged by what your perception of reality is. The weird part is that vast majority of someone's personality is hidden in the unconscious and only manifest themselves out of conscious control. The crazy part is that then Freud had an ulterior motive with his theory. So, what to believe??!! NOTHING...Not even your own rationality.

Or, just maybe, the OP has the opportunity to present on poverty to a group of people that may be inclined to sympathize with the World Bank and IMF. So, OP wanted to point out the hypocrisy of those organizations and compare them to others that are more direct at addressing poverty, among other social issues, and was only aware of ALBA.

Are you capable of deciding? Can you let your guard down? The world is a dangerous place and you should never trust the intentions of others. They're out to get you. Stay safe. Hate.

I think it's in the same area. International monetary/financial/monetary groups. The WTO affects fiscal policy by demanding the end of tariffs. All these organizations use binding, everlasting treaties to override local law and popular opinion and regime change. There's a lot of overlap with G8 too of course.

The biggest rival to WTO/IMF/WB is probably the Bolivarian Alternative.

The EU and ASEAN are your typical neoliberal/liberal organizations. The EU, much alike the WB and IMF has imperialist characteristics especially regarding its surrounding and isolation of Russia and the way that France, Germany hold so much sway and how rotten the deal has been for South Eastern Europe.
