Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. -Malcolm X
In my town, pregnant girls are sent to the high school with the highest concentration of working class kids (I went there my sophomore year) where students can become free labor by selecting Early Child Care as one of the few electives availible in this school. Shit's fucked up.
This is the era of the gradual dismantling of everything the working class gained over the past 150 years.
I hate hardmen and morons with violence fetishes, but shit like this genuinely makes me wanna see heads rolling in the streets.
I agree.
I am not a violent person and I generally dislike people who are...but this fucking misogynist bullshit makes me want to really hurt whoever actively supports or instigates this policy.
Mine did too. This is unbelievable. What are they, trying to punish "sinners" who had the audacity to engage in "pre-marital sex" and then propagate the human race and create beautiful children "out of wedlock"? Nice, let's punish the child by depriving the mother of education, and forcing her into the lowest wage slavery imaginable to provide a bare substinance living for her and the child. At least capitalism goes on churning out its own gravediggers.
Those who, in the name of the quest for the "new," reject the use of the tested insights, understandings, and accomplishments of the last century or more, will merely repeat "old" mistakes.
fuck this shit so much
fuck
This is so awful and fucked up. They should be supporting young people who are pregnant or who have babies instead of making it more difficult for them to access education. They're condemning the mother and the child to a life of hardship because without an education she won't be able to get a job that will allow her to comfortably support herself and her child.
Plus, pregnancy sucks as it is and the last thing a young pregnant woman needs is to be excluded from school and told to get homeschooling (which I would guess most people can't afford).
"Her development, her freedom, her independence must come from and through herself. First, by asserting herself as a personality, and not as a sex commodity. Second, by refusing the right to anyone over her body; by refusing to bear children unless she wants them; by refusing to become a servant to God, the State, society, the husband, the family, etc. ... by freeing herself from the fear of public opinion and public condemnation. Only that, and not the ballot, will set woman free, will make her a force hitherto unknown in the world, a force for real love, for peace, for harmony; a force of divine fire, of life-giving; a creator of free men and women."~ Emma Goldman

Basically a way to cut the working class off from public education so the state can spend less money on it. The media portrays them as innovative schools in inner-city areas that go beyond the restraints of conventional public education and make sure all students do well and go to college. However, what is never said is that the 'restraints' that charter schools are free from are regulations that actually protect the interests of the students, this pregnancy incident being an example. And the schools send "all of their students" to college by kicking out the kids who don't meet their standards. The bourgeoisie found a quick and easy way to purge the working class from the education system, and it's state-subsidized.
