Default Syrian forces fire on anti-government protestors in Aleppo

(AP) BEIRUT - Syrian forces fired on thousands of protesters Friday in Aleppo, killing a teenager, after a raid on dormitories at the city's main university killed four students and made tensions rise in a key bastion of support for the regime.

An Aleppo-based activist said the protests were the largest the city has seen since the start of the uprising against President Bashar Assad in March 2011. Aleppo is a major economic hub that has remained largely loyal to Assad over the course of the 14-month uprising.

    Shit that can't be good.

Support the workers, but I don't know about any workers parties in Syria... Don't defend Assad though against anything other than invasion.

In the late 1980s and before, Ann Druyan and I would routinely smuggle copies of Trotsky’s History of the Russian Revolution into the USSR—so our colleagues could know a little about their own political beginnings.”

I think the story is mostly significant just because it took place in Aleppo. Haven't heard much regarding anti-regime activity in Aleppo (other than some car bombings), even less than the capital city of Damascus.
