    Default police pogroms in athens

    Police pogrom in central Athens

Since today (wednesday 25-4) morning large police operations are taking place in Athens. Police buses with hundreds of police officers start blockading entire building blocks and invading buildings, they stop and search violently everyone who looks foreigner. The people arrested without documents will be moved to the new detention centres. The minister of Citizen Protection M. Chrysochoidis stated: ” Athens will be cleared in a few days, We must re-occupy the public space”.

Trial run for when they come for the leftists and others involved with organizing opposition.

Are there any other sources about this besides blogs?

Holy shit...as a german especially this shit brings up REALLY, REALLY bad memories...
    some quotes?
"...referring to the facility would create 150 police jobs, 350 more jobs for guards and another 350 in other sectors."
Thats exactly what the Nazis reasoned when they started building camps...its beneficial for evryone...

"Detention centers in the northern region of Evros are “synonymous with brutality, despair and dehumanization,” Pro Asyl said"

So they are first reasoning that people live in "dangerous conditions" and then they put them in camps where violence reigns?

So, in theory, you could say that the greek government is...concentrating illegal immigrants deemed dangerous to public health in camps outside of the publics view which are synonymous to violence?

I oppose any tyrant not because he kills a million people, but because he is a tyrant. I say no to tyranny and oppression, and anyone who disagrees does not belong here." - Iron Felix

Reminds me of that famous statement:

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I hope there's some real unrest begins thanks to this. These Nationalist Pogroms are very distasteful.

Boy I wouldn't last a day in Nazi Germany seeing that I'm all three of those things.

In my country they deleted Communist from the actual quote. This is actually the first time I've seen that quote in such a fashion.

Actually there are quite a few versions of the poem around since the original has not been tracked. But different versions also includes social democrats, socialists and Catholics.

    This is just terrible.

Don't know what's worse, the economical and cultural segregation that happened slowly with immigrants and isolated them in the informal ghettos or this formal and open movement.

I'm getting really worried about Greece. This massive shift to the Right smells really foul, and it's getting worse. The lack of radicalization and organization of the left concerns me even more.

This is actually really scary, I can't really get a good picture of the situation in Greece being across the world, but does anyone else think we could be witnessing the rise of Fascism in Greece? Fascism is capitalism in decay; it could be capital's solution to the ongoing crises. I think its safe to say that the situation in Greece is by far the most important contemporary event in the world.
