Very sad news. Perfect example of how Israel's propaganda and thematic cultural emphasis is nothing more than part of the agenda to serve those benefiting from the economic and military functions of the state.
Poor Israelis...but sincerely, this piece really does nothing in terms of thought progression. The international proletariat is suffering under capitalism regardless of race, religion or past. The article is really nothing more than a red herring to the ongoing atrocities committed in Palestine.
Yes, we get it. The Holocaust was a tremendous tragedy but humans have not learned from it. Which is why there are 'holocausts' being committed right beneath the very nose of the world. Countless, endless.. Where is the media attention there? The portrayal of the holocaust in contemporary media and academia has failed at preventing genocide, which is the exigency or so we're told.
sing me to sleep then leave me alone
Um, not really, it's an example of how Israel, which constantly uses the holocaust to justify its existence, does not do this for substantive reasons but for propaganda purposes to make Israelis, Jews and others in the world afraid that the same thing will happen if the Israeli state de-militarizes. To be a red herring, it needs to be designed to distract from the Palestinian issues, but quite frankly nothing like that is happening here. The suffering of the Palestinians is not mutually exclusive with the suffering of Israeli holocaust victims. You are missing the bigger picture, which is that the suffering of both of these groups have a common source on a deeper level.
I don't see why this fact means that we should ignore the fact that survivors of this holocaust cannot even live their last days of retirement in comfort, at the same time Bibi Netenyahu is trying to start a war presumably to "prevent the next holocaust". It shows that the rhetoric of their government is empty and based on hypocrisy.
You are wrong about media coverage and academia during the holocaust-it suffered from the same phenomenon of a lack of media or academic attention at the time. In that respect, the holocaust is no different from all the other genocides that go ignored while they are actually occurring. Also, it was a unique genocide in history insofar as the Nazis actually tried to industrialize it, and it ended up leaving more victims in total than any other genocide of the 20th century.
