Shaima Alawadi, a 32-year-old mother of five who emigrated from Iraq with her husband 17 years ago, was found severely beaten inside her El Cajon, California home next to a note that allegedly read “go back to your own country. You’re a terrorist.”
Alawadi was rushed to the hospital, but passed away after being taken off life support yesterday afternoon.
One of her three daughters, Fatima Al Himidi, told KUSI she found Alawadi unconscious in the dining room. The attacker had apparently broken in through the sliding glass door and assaulted Alawadi repeatedly with a tire iron. Al Himidi said the attacker was gone by the time she came downstairs.
According to Lt. Mark Coit of the El Cajon police, the family had received a note similar to the one left near Alawadi earlier this month, but thought it was a prank, so did not bother reporting it to authorities.
“Given the fact of these notes left, we’re obviously concerned about the possibility of a hate crime,” said the executive director of CAIR’s San Diego branch, Hanif Mohebi. “I don’t think anyone would disagree this is a coldblooded murder.”
Investigators say they believe this was “an isolated incident,” and a hate crime is just “one of the possibilities” they are exploring.

As Muslims are among the oppressed groups in the USA today I am quite sure it was a hate crime; I mean, jesus, the note kinda gives it away!

What's even worse is that we're going to hear from the American right something along the lines of "well if it wuz a white person who got killed by a muslim noone would care hate crimes shmate crimes", which is the same thing they're saying about the recent conviction of the Rutgers student who spied on his roommate having sex with a man, causing his roommate to kill himself.

The investigators raising the hate crime as only a possibilty should rethink what they are saying. Of course it's a damn hate crime. If it was a simple robbery or even a senseless beating they wouldn't have left a note telling her she is a terrorist and in the wrong country.

I'm actually surprised how many people are divided over this issue.. some supporting the honor killing suspicion. I believe there was a similar case a few months back? A muslim woman was murder and they tried to cover it up by saying it was a hate crime and in reality it was a member of her family? Does this sound familiar? anyone have info on this?

This is actually more angering than sad. Why do humans inflict pain on other humans for no reason other than that they are different? The person who did this should be imprisoned for life.

Don't let your bias get the better of you, i know of a similar vandalism incident that turned out to be insurance fraud.
Sickening. When the far-right feel they can do stuff like this and get away with it, it's indicative of fundamental failings within the anti-fascist movement. With the global economic crisis, the far-right is growing in popularity and we need to be militantly opposing it, both by targetting areas they use for recruitment to counter their hate propaganda, and by physically confronting them in the streets. Too many people have lost their lives to these scumbags recently.

there's no evidence yet that this was a part of the organized far-right movement. for all we know it could have been a racist apolitical.
This is just disgusting and serves as a sobering reminder that we must fight these types of people tooth and nail wherever they are until we stamp out bigotry in its entirety, bigots in their entirety or until they learn to keep their fucked up views to themselves.
I'm reminded of an incident at a local bar a few years ago where my friend Mike (who is half Indian but looks full Indian) was harassed in the men's room by some rednecks for being a "terrorist/sandn****r/insert racial epithet) by some rednecks. Luckily I went to take a piss and found they had him cornered in a stall and was able to get him out of there. Unfortunately I also received an assault charge - for which I am still paying. But I will gladly do it again and again and again.
The irony behind this is, white people come from europe. On top of the fact that this is not their native land they seemed to think they have been on this continent for millions of years. Wrong. They were once the terrorists and pushing the cross over the faces of the NATIVE american, causing mass disease, and the other irony behind that is the fact they were the rebels against a church that represented christ teachings. The right wing has no remorse for these acts because they have been the terrorists for 400 years. Besides a millenia of class struggle, to say this is not a right wing motivated attack is a mistaken stance on the real agenda of the right wing. This women just wanted a better future for her kids. How is that terrrorism? It is terrorism because the bourgeois class knows her children will be educated enough to the point where will can actually have a muslim president. They are afraid of this. But we aren't, unless of course that person wants sharia law and such. I'm sure many are aware that most (not necessarily all) muslims/immigrants come here for a better future. Where as the right wants more cheap slave labor. Sad. But the revolution continues.
