Default is socialism in one country possible?

If it is not possible, then what is the point of this site? Do we just sit around waiting for the world revolution?

What is the link between the two questions here? What effect would the (im)possibility of socialism have on the point of this site?

Anyway, it's not worth questioning its possibility when it would be so undesirable a course of action in any case. Though it's also impossible. Assuming the country in question isn't some hench global empire thing, the worldwide power and scale of which far outstrips anything that has ever existed in human history. In which case there is a chance that socialism could exist in that one (ex-)country, but it probably wouldn't be 'socialism in one country.' And the purpose of this site is so that a bunch of internet nerds can discuss things in between their actually doing things. Because some of us don't just wait for stuff to happen, and instead kinda make it happen, ya dig?

Socialism in one country is impossible, but we can have socialism in one of these:

Sorry, just broke the rules a bit. Let me actually post something serious. I think it depends on what you mean by socialism. It has come to pass that many people consider socialism a transition to communism. If this is your definition, then at some point you would need a socialist country, but never a communist one. OTOH, most people here don't accept that definition, and use the two words interchangeably, in which case, you cannot have true socialism in one country, but according to some, a country would have to become some sort of workers-state and help other revolutions around the world while staving off attacks from capitalist countries.

We don't 'sit and wait for world revolution'. Were you previously thinking you were 'sitting and waiting for American revolution'? Of course, you're not in America so much as (let's say) Tennessee. And not so much in Tennessee as Memphis. And then not so much in Memphis as your own bedroom.

As revolution in your own bedroom is a logical absurdity, this site must exist for a wider purpose (it wasn't set up so could have a revolution in your bedroom, honest).

The point of this site is because socialism in one country is not possible. So talking to people around the world is a really good idea.

The revolution isn't a coup. It's not a band of plotters who one day sieze the telephone exchange and declare a revolution. It's a process by which the world working class of which you're a part comes to a consciousness of itself as a class and its role in the future shaping of the world - then puts that knowledge into action. If you 'sit around waiting' you retard that process. You have be a participant in it. This site and others like it should give you some insights into those processes.
