Since we don't want to argue using facts? WTF?!?
There were lots of facts in there, son. Cancer and deformities increasing by hundreds of percent, 400 tons of uranium dropped in iraq and kosovo, 1000-1900 times the normal radiation levels recorded in baghdad, and you say that they were arguing without facts? What's wrong with you, man?

Hypocritical American bastards!

I find this unbelieveable; there has been a fuss kicked up about "gulf war syndrome" in the UK, and people have gone to court claiming compensation. These are the ones who were firing the damn weapons! The military commanders have no sense whatsoever.

You'd have thought they'd have learnt the lesson after the "Gulf War syndrome" panic. And the sufferers of this disorder were the ones FIRING the damn shells! Imagine what the people being hit by them feel...

Utterly utterly unforgiveable.

I'm not even denying that depleted uranium causes birth defects and cancer, although I am a little skeptical about their numbers. My point was it was a horribly manipulative piece of shit. How can you possibly argue that?

like in the pictures? Whether or not those specific pictures were a result of DU. The fact is the effects are the same.

You don't think it's misleading to show babies that weren't harmed by DU in a campaign against DU? I dislike manipulative propagandha, even if its message is right.

deformed babies are a proven result of exposure to depleted uranium. Therefore, showing deformed babies is ok in this situation.
However, I agree on your stance on propaganda, though I don't believe this show to be misleading. The makers of it were just trying to add a human dimention to the cold facts, that's all.

Reminds me of agent orange and vietnam. Everybody's up in arms because the american vets are messed up by it, but nobody recognizes that agent orange is still working its black magic in 'nam. WHO ARE THE REAL VICTIMS?

Don't get me wrong, what you are saying is correct.

The effects are the same though (DU & birth defects). Those pictures could very well be a result of DU. How would we every really know? How can we really believe anything out there? At some point we have to trust our instincts, and I do believe the message is right.

The key issue at hand, as I understand it, isn't DU or false imagery; it's protesting against the use of weapons that leave a legacy of pain and misfortune long after the political masters have concluded their wars. Like landmines in Cambodia, or Agent Orange in Vietnam (notice how these things almost always happen in Third World nations?).

So, regardless of whether the pictures are a direct representation of the effects of DU or whether it is ethical practice to use such pictures to convey such messages, fuck it, facts or no, DU weaponry is fucked up, ok?
The prolonged barrage engulfed Zero-One in the glow of a thousand suns. But unlike their former masters with their delicate flesh, the machines had little to fear of the bombs' radiation and heat. Thus did Zero-One's troops advance outwards in every direction. And one after another, mankind surrendered its territories. So the leaders of men conceived of their most desperate strategy yet. A final solution: the destruction of the sky.

I had read the same numbers about the cancer ratings a while ago and they come from the UN. They could have done a better job in giving their source. It now sounds as leftist propaganda without value.

The films have a good propaganda value tough, spread them. Shock people, let them meet reality from their couzy houses and destroy their believes in a "clean" war.
Let no one charge that socialists have arrayed class against class in this struggle. That has been done long since in the evolution of capitalist society. One class is small and rich and the other large and poor....One consists of capitalists and the other of workers. These two classes are at war. Every day of peace is at the expense of labor. There can be no peace and good will between these two essentially antagonistic economic classes. - Debs

OK, I'll believe that. I just tend to be skeptical of big numbers flashing up that are accomanied by pictures of dead babies and german metal.

Depleted uranium (DU) sounds like a serious health risk, despite what many are saying. William Blum reported, in his book Rogue State, that there is a proving ground in Scotland where DUs are used. The cancer rates of the communities surrounding the proving ground have much higher rates of Leukemia.

In Vieques, Puerto Rico, the U.S. tests DU weapons. Cancer rates there are double the national average, and easily the worst in Puerto Rico.

It is harder to pin down DUs as culprits for cancer rates in Iraq, since there were other deadly weapons at work there, but the DUs probably deserve at least partial credit.

hey, i too have read Rogue State , good point made. I got that book, by the way, off of the RATM website reading list, i would recommend it.
It is so hard to believe that these dangerous weapons are being tested with harmful effects on the people who are buying them. But that is how its supposed to be, it is supposed to seem impossible for that to be happening, and whenever it is voiced, it is a 'huge conspiracy' and that person is labeled a nutcase.

This angers me very much. There is nothing more deplorable than the violent abuse of innocent thousands. Nothing justifies what has been done, nothing.
