    Default Non-Political Discussion

This thread is for non-political discussion within the Opposing Ideologies forum. Observe however, that oneliners and spam posts are not allowed; as opposed to the old 'chatter' - threads, posts made in this one are expected to have some kind of meaningful content and are to consist more than one line.

Please see the Opposing Ideologies Forum Guidelines for the explanation behind these rules. Kindly respect though, that this thread is not meant for discussion about them, or board policy in general. Such posts will end up in the trashcan.

    Enjoy your posting!

EDIT: modified the oneliner rule for practical reasons.

Does the three line minimum also count to questions you want to ask a user based on a post or opinion or do we have to draw it out over three sentences?

The level of discussion is a little dissapointing, threads about economics, actual politics, theory, current events, get little attention, but some post modern asshole who is obviously trolling gets tons, or some guy rehashing old arguments gets tons, or some guy saying muslims are terrorists. Unfortunately I don't know how long this forum is gonna be a place for vibrant discussion.

Does anybody else find the Scottish accent hot? Well I think any accent is hot, but that deep Scottish is much hotter than any other accent. What's weird is that I hated those accents when I was a kid, but now I find it attractive.

That's the hottest. The male accent is still attractive, but its when the women have the deep accent that it gets more attractive.

Hope I'm not sounding sexist in any way, with the stricter policies I would hate to get restricted to this place.

Hey Hindsight, how can I get my cat to let me put the ear tick liquid in her ears without her running? She understands what I'm doing because she comes back to let me do the other ear, but its annoying to have her run and have her get the liquid all over her face.

1: You can solve this as follows:

2: or you could leash your cat so it can't run.
3: but cats will always run when they feel liquid in their ear
4: I usually just held them tight
5: They didn't like it as much but it was for their own good
6: alternatively you can do this when feeding...maybe the cat won't run then.
7: or....but I assume there is a time limit...you can use the pavlov method by giving it a candy right before and after you do the drips.
8: make sure you let the cat know you have another candy/treat for her/him so they will focus on that

The rule is 3 sentences not 3 lines. Just pointing that out. Insert 3rd sentence here.

I would be happy if anyone tried to raise the level of political debate IN THE PART OF THE FORUM FOR POLITICAL DEBATE. This only threads that get attention here are bullshit troll threads that are re-hashing the same stuff. Its difficult to write 3 sentances when you only want to make a simple, basic, single point.

Yeah I usually give her a treat after and it works a bit better. The thing I'm worried about is if she gets the medicine in her eye or mouth. Never tried a leash, but she would probably accept it so maybe I will try that.

1: Cats are funny creatures with their own will.
2: Our cats were like that to, when we had to give them eye drops or something like that.
3: But I usually restrained them because leashes didn't work.

Posts discussing board policy, which were explicitly forbidden in the OP and generally aren't meant to be discussed in this forum, and troll posts have been trashed. Now, there are two possible ways forward from here; either people follow the rules of the offtopic thread, or there will be no offtopic thread at all.

Did you guys think there always was one? Nope, it was only a few years ago that I (yes, I) proposed the starting of one to Jazzratt. I think it is necessary as a valve to keep non-political stuff from flooding the main forum.

It was however never meant to be a place where people can simply spam up their post counts by posting pictures and oneliners (do you guys think Bud Struggle would have gotten to over 10 000 posts without it).

As for the three sentences rule, it simply means that oneliners aren't allowed, as they aren't anywhere except chit chat, where posts don't count:

Now, let's see how this goes. If people keep breaking the rules this thread will be removed.

So sentinel explain to me why exactly you consider my icehockey video spam. Seeing as it is non-political and has relevance and is meaningful because I wanted to share it and talk about icehockey. Maybe you should explain how exactly you envision your rules and what you mean with them because I understand fuck all about this being a non political thread which doesn't allow non political posts because they are considered spam. You are killing this forum dude.

Is there any benefit to having a high post count? I don't see any. Bud struggle being in the RC was acutally a good thing, it was when he tried to derail proper discussions when he was a problem.

One more time, I'm not doing this on a whim. The BA elected me to mod this forum on this specific platform. I outlined it clearly, before I was elected to the position.

This thread is not for discussing board policy, use the avenues available for that: start a thread in the members forum for that purpose or make a proposal for rule change in the CU proposal forum.

If you want to make posts about ice hockey, that is fine as long as they don't contain discussions about board policy and/or trolling. If they do they will be trashed.

I hope this is clear for all now.

I am asking you for an explanation of the rules which you are implementing which are not clear at all.....but which you seem to refuse to give.

You can skim around this by refering what you did or did not outline to the BA....but the fact of the matter is that the members need to know exactly what you mean. nd since you closed the sticky on the rules and YOU brought it up here I think my question is relevant and should be adressd. And doing so in the members area kind of beats the purpose since restricted users have no acces to that and can not see the explanation.

Otherwise this becomes arbitrary bullshit. I am not questioning the rules I am asking you for clarification which YOU made relevant by deleting non-political posts and designating them as spam in a non political forum. Quite obviously the rules are not clear to users. So clearly YOU did not communicate the rules well.

Wether or not you did to the BA is of no consequence and quite a few people mods and admins were very surprised to learn you closed RC.

Not to mention the fact that you also closed my comment on how my day was so far. Which did not question board policy but expressed my sadness about the closing of RC. So what? Now THAT is considered questioning of the board rules? You can't say you are sad? You also deleted my cat posts which did NOT contain ANY reference to board policy AT all.

You know I find politics terribly boring. I mean, it's such a pile of codswallop with absolutely no potential to enact serious social change; it's all just about rearranging sticks, rather than doing away with the sticks altogether. As far as I'm concerned, all political movements are inherently reformist; even 'revolution' (as it is generally understood in contemporary parlance) is a lifeless, impotent act of reform following some 'moment,' an election by force, a ritualistic 'shift of power' from one group to another, from the status quo to the group that will enact the 'necessary' political reforms, who will rearrange society's institutions - this may be adequate for partial liberation, for a simple amelioration of circumstance, but anarchy can never come about through politics, even supposedly anarchic politics, nor by these reforming 'revolutions;' it requires a reaching beyond politics, beyond this outdated concept of 'revolution,' surpassing them both before they even begin to realise themselves. I think that anybody who puts their faith in politics or the political has given up all hope for a better existence, has resigned themselves to imperfection and compromise, to procrastination, to worthless dreams of some far off quasi-messianic age.

Therefore I'll never acknowledge the political, in whatever form it takes, because it will always be an anachronism, a set of lifeless institutions with no worth, nor with any potential. Contemporary 'revolutionaries' are half way there, by rejecting the extant political system, by recognising its impotence, yet still they cling to their notions of 'revolution,' convinced that it will return the political's lost potence to it. This, however, is an incomplete act, it calls only for a partial revolution, a papering over the cracks; there can be nothing more revolutionary than the complete rejection of politics as a concept, as a form of social organisation, and there will be no revolution worthy of the name which does not exit politics entirely, which does not result in the wholesale abolition of politics in all its innumerable forms. This is not to say, however, that I believe there will ever come a time when revolution will not be required, when politics will finally be overcome, when people will no longer turn to it as their own little medicine.

This is more than non-political discussion - this is anti-political discussion
