    Default American terror

I'm in a debate with one of my friends. and someone commented that the united states is the leading cause of terror. which i support that it is. but then the person i was debating with countered that the u.s is in Pakistan and Afghanistan to stop terror.i have some idea of the places and effects of american imperialism and terror. Help me counter this.

But can someone give my links or post about where american imperialism had an effect (like giving weapons to saddam, or funding the contras, that sort of thing). or i can formulate a response.

I tried looking around this site and i could int find anything detailed and specific but specific examples would be greatly appreciated.

you couldn't find anything specific? there's a sticky somewhere, methinks in Opposing Ideologies, titled "imperialism's charge sheet."

with all due respect, that's a shitty way to lose an argument. The USA is there in there out of economic interest. The forces of imperialism have no qualms with associating with terrorists when it is in their own interst, as in lybia, and the Arab half of the Iran-contra affair proves they will deal with evil extremists if given the chance. Bin Laden was offed because he was no longer useful as a boogeyman, just like Pablo Escobar, the display of force that was his killing was more convenient for global imperialism at the time.

i found examples. i wanted something more precise. i was actually looking for that thread you mentioned for the longest time the other day. but nonetheless i won the debate. as he thinks that goverment and economics are the same thing (essentially the goverment is the base not the superstructure, but i tried explaining to him that the economic system determines the form of goverment for the most part)

There is about a 70 page Chomsky interview where Chomsky details American terror. I think its called On the Afghanistan War.
“How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so?” Charles Bukowski, Factotum

How 'bout the other day when good ol' NATO helicoptered in and killed 28(is that the number now?) Pakistanis and the US just goes "Whoops?"

The problem is, Western media (and the privilege of living in America!) are always going to be against you in such arguments. Truth seekers are a minority in the US.

    Good luck with your friends.
